  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

You guys are relentless, I am taking it because a) your insecure b) your life sucks and need to feel better by dishing it out c) you just plain are missing to many brain cells. Whatever the case may be mayeb yuo shoudl have read the magazine, not just the news part, or are you only able to look at pictures !!

OK gents. Here's my take on Mr. Cote, and i ndon't care what kind of tensions or past realtions there may be with other members. His site is what he says it is. He's taken marketing and public announcements from various cigar manufacturers and distributors and posted it all on one place on his website. It appears as though when a manufacturer releases as statement, he simply copies and pastes it on his website. In a previous post he has clearly stated that he only provides an avenue for people to gather info about/from the mfg's. I would suggest to Marc that he remind people of that fact...he's not writing anything that i can see. I didn't completely scour his june or july newsletters, so i may have missed something, but if you check out his site, it's clear that the possibility of him NOT being an expert is very real. Any ol Joe can gather info from the net and put it all into one place.

Just my .02.

Just because he has a cigar related website doesn't make him an expert.

No offense to anyone.

i'm done on this topic.

This is really starting to suck! It's the same crap drama that other sites have, that are the reasons why I'm not there, I come here. We never used to have this kind of stuff, I hate to see it now, I hope it quites. I'm not going to check this thread any more.

somebody feels they need to dump all over me, so what is it ,, me or them, I just tend to want to defend myself against the tyrants of abuse. Anyway, sorry for all to have to read, but them second set of cigars,, NOT plume according to someone that sees it almost everyday, ,but hey, whatever floats your boat,

plume is crystallized liquid (tobacco oil) looks like a stain or something on the wrapper, I fell for that "well this is a different kind of plume" trick too, there is only one way tobacco looks when it drys and it looks like a stain like if you were to have a milk stain on it,, according to a phone conversation this morning with a person that sees it almost daily,, anything other than that is mold or a lot of times , the veggie glue used to hold the wrappers is mistaken for plum but it does not turn white like plume, plain and simple I am told tobacco oil only turns one color and that is milky white, and usually does not rub off too easy like mold. So I got myself straight ton that but from one person who knows what the hell he is talking about, he is supposed to get me some photos of some sticks that are really covered with plume,

End the topic and lock this one, please. It's getting side tracked.

Marc, the photos I posted (of a Robt. Burns cigar that was in my humidor) shows what plume looks like. White, crystallized tobacco oil on the wrapper and even on the cello.

I have had pretty decent experience with plume. There are 2 ways it appears, depending on the cigar oils. First, and by far the most common, are the clear crystals. You don't see them unless you look very closely or catch the glint of them in the light. This is by far the most common!

The second type are the tiny white specs. They are nearly impossible to see for some of you old guys, but they appear in the pores of the cigar leaf. They tend to be very spread out, but in extreme circumstances can appear to like dust on the cigar. The difference, though, is that you can't blow it off and it does not have depth to it.

That being said, I see no plume on any of marc's cigars. Plume does not happen in one place on a cigar. If the Ashton had plume it would not be isolated. Also, I would not think that Ashton cabinets would be able to get plume without deep aging. There is not enough oil in the leaves to allow it to develop plume in a short (see 10-15 years) amount of time.

It is very easy to tell the two appart allthough they look similar in some pictures, mold is fuzzy, plume is crystals. I do not think it looks like a stain on the wrapper at all, I have seen alot of cigars that have plume, and it is usually almost clear, but still slightly white until it really gets going then it looks a little more white in the light, but never looks like the cigar is stained, IMHO.

Guys, we all know that it's mold and not plume. Let this thread die -- this isn't the way we do stuff around here. There's an ignore button in your User CP if any of you BOTLs feel the need to use it.
