Whats your opinion on storing cigars in a desktop at 72% humidity. I have my opinion, but I want yours. I guess a simple yes or no answer would be fine. Thanks, RonC.

no. when it comes to humidors, like aquariums, the bigger the better. the few desktops I have don't go that high, thanks to beads, but they do fluctuate more frequently than I'd like. don't have that problem with cabinets.

As I keep my desktops set up for smokes I want to be able to reach in and light up, no. If I was storing for longer term it might not be a problem, but even then 72 would still be too high for me.

When I was using oasis, in the summer my RH would sometimes get up to 72%. The Nicaraguans I enjoyed so much back then would tend to tunnel and canoe. they would be wet and spongy the last 1/3. I'm a proponent of the low 60s these days.

a company approached me about selling a desktop humidifying system that would maintain 72%. I turned them down based on the 72% humidity level. I agree with all of you, but just wanted to do a little survey to get other cigar smokers opinions. Thanks for reaffirming what I knew you all would say.

Strange. Can't imagine a company with a modicum of cigar knowledge wanting a steady 72%. I mean 70% sure, that's the "standard" for so many, but just curious as to why they wanted the extra 2%.

same here, i asked "why 72%". They had some scientific reason. I am not a scientist, I am a cigar smoker. I like my cigars in the 65% range.

agreed. i cant figure out how they arrived at 72%. i thought that the european tradition was to smoke cigars on the drier side. as i said, they have a long explanation, but i dont agree with it. I told them i was going to do a little survey, and give them the results. they are not going to be pleased...LOL.

domestics, due to thicker binders, tend to have a lot of problems when stored too wet. that is why a lot of opus x have terrible burn issues when they are fresh.

I keep mine at 65 RH. I did notice however, the Boveda Humidity Packets
come in 72 RH also. :smt102
