  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

A friend of mine sent me an email today asking my recommendation on a cigar but I don't really have an answer for him since I mostly smoke different cigars.

I thought some of y'all might have some suggestions I could forward on to him.

"I have fallen in love with Cao MX2 cigars but at 7 bucks a piece it gets kinda expensive. So Im kinda looking for a good Madura wrapped beli or chuchill sized long filler cigar thats good but not nearly as expensive. It has to be long filler though and i know that makes it more expensive right off the bat i think. I really enjoy the taste of the double madura wrapped MX2's"

Thanks!

I haven't tried the MX2, but a great cheap maduro is the Sancho Panza Double Maduro, which cost $35-$50 a box.

Oliva Serie G maduros are great, as are the casa torano maduros (conn. broadleaf wrappers are the best! especially like the lancero) and onyx reserves.

A lot depends on what he thinks of as not "kinda expensive." Most of the cigars I smoke tend to run in the $5-6 range, so I am guessing that won't be enough of a difference from $7 to be important to him. Gisperts are a nice, inexpensive cigar. One of my current favorites in the $2-3 range is the, get ready 'cause it's a long name, Genuine Pre-Embargo Counterfeit Cuban Cigar Edicion Limitada from JR's. They're made by Perdomo, and I think they're great. The EL's are in a nice maduro wrapper. The one problem is that they are sold only in boxes of 50 sticks (unless there is a JR's near your friend that he can walk into and buy some singles), so he's looking at $100+ a box.

He might also want to try some of the Rocky Patel X-Outs that some of the internet retailers are selling in bundles right now. Hope this helps.

I'm right here with Tyler. Toss in the Padrons too. Love the 2000, 3000, 4000 and Palmas... Great everyday cigar that is not too harsh on the wallet.

For budget Maduros, I've really been impressed with the RP Vigilante Maddies that CI/CBID have been pushing lately. They're on closeout, so probably won't be around much longer, but tons of flavor at killer prices the past few weeks. $1 - $1.50 per stick; I'm sure that if I was faced w/these on blind taste test, I'd easily pick them over many far more expensive cigars.

CAO MX2 at $7/cigar?? They aren't 7.00 a cigar here:

I know a place on the internet where they're more like 5 a cigar (or less) :)
