  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I have been out of the loop on the board since last Wednesday.....my 20 year old daughter was riding one of the horses when it spooked and flipped over on her breaking her left femur above the knee!
As we live in a very rural area it was an hour for an ambulance, then an hour getting her loaded into the ambulance, then over an hour to the hospital! They did surgery that night and put a rod in her leg. We got her home Saturday but a lot of pain and a lot of rehab to go.
I'm just getting back to work today!
My wife didn't leave the hospital at all from Wednesday till Saturday morning when they let her go home. I couldn't stay because it was a semi-private room for women only but I was still there all day every day.
Any thoughts and prayers for her quick recovery would be appreciated!

WOW, Femur fractures are very bad. Very hard to break the largest bone in the body and a MF recovery time will be required for sure. 15 years in EMS as volunteer I have only run a couple of broken femurs. That wait, ambo ride must have been very hard on her. I understand her pain and wish your daughter a speedy recovery and wish the family peace.

Exactly! She just received her EMT and is going to school to be a flight nurse so she knew it was her femur immediately. She is also on the volunteer fire dept. so they took good care of her but the ride (especially since it is 8 miles of bumpy dirt roads before the highway) was very hard on her. The volunteer EMS was first to get there but they can't give drugs so it was another hour before and ambulance made it that could give her morphine!

I hope all works out well and I'm with you guy.
Mostly grown daughters will do that to your life. I know mine does. Two pins in the ankle at 22.

Here is hoping your daughter makes a speedy recovery.

I broke my left femur twice in 5 weeks back in '89. Once in a severe auto accident where I was hit in the driver's door by a semi while I was merging onto the highway. They put a rod in my leg and sent me home a week later.

then while on crutches I fell down a flight of stairs and got my left arm caught in the crutches breaking it. I went to the emergency room and they fixed my arm and took x-rays but said your leg has a fracture but it is from the car wreck a few weeks ago, here is a morphine shot and a bottle of tylox. Go see your doctor next week for your regular appointment.

well I went to it a horrible week later and he said...whoops. Gotta operate again. another rod in the femur and 4 pins and a plate later they let me out of that place. I did more damage in the fall and the week delay than in the car wreck.

To make a short story long ...Mike please make sure your daughter is very careful on the crutches, they are dangerous.

Glad she's pulling through like a champ, Mike. Having lived in the boonies, I know how it is trying to get in or out in an emergency. My thoughts for a fast recovery for your daughter.
