Ok, I am back among the living again. Was sicker than hell for a day, but all is ok today. Thanks for the extra day guys. BTW, I had momma post for me yesterday. She laughed at some of the posts. Having said that, here we go with my reivew.
I smoked this one at work the other night and was somewhat impressed by the look and taste of this cigar. I received several compliments of the scents that were coming off this cigar.
CIgar #4 is a nice petit corona with a triple cap that is well placed. No major veins or defects were noticed on this cigar. Had a nice, firm feel with just the right amount of springiness to it. The wrapper was oily and had a medium toothy feel to it. Scents of medium black pepper, dark chocolate and espresso emitted off this cigar.
After cutting this cigar with my Palio cutter, taste to the tongue was pepper, dark roasted espresso and chocolate. The cigar had a great pre-light draw with just a little restriction, which I thought might become an issue later on. I toasted the cigar and noticed how easy this one took off. Lots of blue/grey smoke plumed off this cigar, as did the peppery flavors.
First third of the cigar provided me with great smoke, a great draw and pretty good flavors. At first the blend was one dimensional. The flavors of pepper, chocolate and espresso were easily detectable and pronounced by themselves. The blend appeared a little off to me. This changed as I went into the 2nd third. Good white/grey ash, which appeared tight on the cigar.
The second third, pepper started becoming more predominant. Not overpowering, but it made the flavor turn into a spicy treat. Still hints of chocolate, but the dark roasted expresso and hints of a minor sweetness crept through. Also, a little floral aroma crept through at times. Still, this cigar had a good draw and great smoke. The ash remained tight and had the appearance of flakiness to it. No touch-ups were necessary, as this cigar was smoking perfect.
Final third, the peppery flavor remained, as did the espresso, licorice (very minor at times) and cedar. The smoke continued to plume huge amounts of smoke from this cigar. The draw remained good with some restriction, but this did not take away from this cigar. The ash was still tight.
Overall, this cigar was pleasant. It had a nice, creamy finish with not harsh aftertaste. In my opinion, this is a young cigar and needs some more age to allow the blend to meld together more. It had a good amount of smoke, a good draw and no construction issues. I never had to touch this cigar up at all, so no burn issues were noted. I enjoyed this cigar, even though it was young, but this would not be one of my top ten cigars to smoke yet.
As a guess of the origin of this cigar, I am leaning towards Nicaragua and believe this cigar might be an Illusione. Guess We will find out soon enough.
