BoM August 2010/2011
Casa de Montecristo is having the launch event (more on that later....there will be a special for BOTL guys) for the upcoming Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial Limited Edition cigar. They had gotten their shipment in yesterday, and I made my way down to grab one last night. Turns out, a few BOTLs were there as well. I had a chance to hang out with W.B., FireDoc83 and JDog.
The JG Limited Edition has a blend of a number of cuban seed tobacco, and based on what I have read, does include Pelo de Oro. In fact, in the binder and filler there are two leaves of Pelo do Oro. The wrapper is Broadleaf (Viso) for the 2011 release. The cigar measures 6 1/2 x 52. The box has 16 cigars in total, one of which is a Connecticut wrapped cigar that is supposed to be the blend for 2012. Based on what it says on the box, a total of 3700 boxes have been produced.
The wrapper on the JG Limited Edition is a dark chocolate brown, with a nice oily shine. The cigar feels nice and firm, minimal veins and a slight tooth provide some texture. The double bands provide a nice contrast in color to the wrapper.
A quick cut with my Palio, and the pre-light has leather, spice and some strong pepper. The first third of the JGLE has a great balance of cocoa, leather and strong pepper. There is a fairly good amount of smoke coming off the cigar. The burn is not perfectly straight...but this is ROTT, so I would expect it could be a little wet. The ash is pretty firm, a little flake here and there, and is light gray in color.
Moving into the second third, the pepper calmed down a little bit. Leather moved to the forefront, while the cocoa flavor mixed with a little cedar in the background. The burn still wavers a little bit, but was fairly straight.
I've done a number of reviews while sitting at Casa, and one of the girls that works there always gives me crap about taking pictures of my cigars. Well, she happened to be there right when I was going to take a pic when moving into the final third. I asked if she wanted to be in it....
Back to the cigar! The final third had a great mix of leather and cedar. The pepper started to pick back up like it had been in the first third. Bits of cocoa mixed within the background. The burn still would be off just a bit here and there, and the ash did have a look as if it was a little wet.
I was expecting this cigar to be a great offering, and I wasn't let down at all. I do think that it could use a couple of weeks or so to dry up a little, but they're pretty much ready to smoke based on what I had last night. I am going to be lighting up the Connecticut in just a little while....review to come.
The JGLE lasted 2:10...for me at least.
