  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Thus far Zaya has a slight lead on Zacapa for me but I buy both bottles equally. I also have a bottle of Dogfish head brown honey rum, and Ron Pampero Aniversario which are both quite delicious.

I am a Zaya kind of guy, but also love Ron Zacapa, and the occasional tumbler of Pyrat. Ron Matusalem is nice as well, and Mount Gay Extra Old has a nice burn on the finish. If you like spiced rums, I recommend Sailor Jerry and The Kraken 94 Proof.

From everything I have tried so far, HC7 does it for me. Zacapa is too sweet for my liking and I do enjoy Flor de Cana, but I prefer HC7 for drinking straight. Unfortunately the Washington State liquor stores do not have a good selection...

For Zaya drinkers, how does that compare to the others? I like more of a "bite" like scotch can give you so that's why I don't like the sweet rums... is Zaya sweet or does it have any bite to it?

I've never tried Zaya, can't find it here, and can't order it either....

That said, Zacapa is right up there for me, as is Pyrat, but I prefer HC, especially the barrel proof stuff.

Guatemalan Zaya (discontinued for 7(?) years now) is probably the best rum i've had. Even better than Zacapa. The Zaya on sale now is from Trinidad, which is probably the sweet rum that you remember. The two zaya's are world's apart.

I've had some HC, tasted a bit unrefined to me. Ron Centenarrio XX used to be one of my favorites but now seems bland.

There is a bottle of Pyrat sitting here that I have yet to try, but i've heard very good things.

I'd add Zaya to my list if it was still the Guatemalan formula. I like sweet rums, but the Zaya from Trinidad just doesn't cut it.

And for Aloha Style, the Zacapo XO is a fantastic rum. NOT sweet like the Zacapa 23, but with a smooth full bodied flavor.

Ron Z without a doubt. Currently having my mixer rum of Cappy Morgan 100 proof and mexican coke. Also Appleton VS is a good change up.
