  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Salamone perfection...

eodcole, you should put a warning in the subject line for those of us that need to be careful of this temptation! With the economy the way it is, this kind of thing could ruin me!

They could ruin me too. Of all the salamones I've got my hands on these look to be the most skillfully rolled. I couldn't help myself but to restrict how many I bought instead of staying away completely.

Okay now for a little info as to how they smoke.

If you are familiar with the LFD ligero and DL line you would find very similar flavor profile. The one thing I found with this though was how a little finesse was worked into the cigar. I think between the large ring and the blend (obviously) the hardcore pepper and knock you in the face flavor was tamed a bit. I think it's for the better too because I was smoking this for over 2.5 hours and that was me smoking faster than normal. I couldn't imagine DL Chiselito type power in a cigar this size over the burn duration. I would compare it to rowdy kids that got a talking to by mom and now they're mostly behaving. I won't point out any specific flavors I picked up but I will say you can tell it's an LFD. If you get one or more I'll let you make your own judgements. I liked it and can't wait to see how the others are further down the road.

I think my shop is trying to get their hands on a box or two more if they can. They only have one box left (10 cigars). I may need to get more.

I also just saw something on their construction. From the bloke at A Cigar Smoker's Journal (in Twitter, mind ye): "The wrapper of the cigar is 2 different leafs. Yes. 2 leafs. The perfecto tip to a half inch mark is a seperate wrapper."

If you're talking about the foot of the cigar he/you are right. It's a completely separate piece of wrapper. Probably a piece cut off when doing the cuts to form the head cap. Now if he means it's a different type of leaf then I wouldn't agree. I didn't taste a difference besides the wrapper to filler ratio change.

The thing is he got burn issues (Twitter username: NYISLES) and, when he contacted LFD, they offered to send more. Thus he used the ones he had to see the anatomy and that was what he said after unraveling them.

I'm not a twitter user but I know he has a website and left a message last night to which he responded.

All the salamones I've smoked I normally have a temporary burn issue right at the beginning. I bet it is tough to have uniform filler touching the wrapper when it goes from such a small foot to the 64 ring. I used to just snip the tip but now I just light them and see how they do because it more often than not fixes itself. Although I did have a DPG Black figurado with a serious tunnel and the wrapper tunneled down to another spot and started burning out of the side. It was a lopsided roll and they happen.
