This is my first look at the San Lotano Oval after being recommended the stick at my local B&M. Construction is superb with minimal veins and no soft spots to be found. I normally don't care for many box pressed smokes but the oval shape feels very good in my hands. The cigar clips easily with my Xikar MTX and I am greeted with a cold draw of leather and cedar. After lighting the main flavors through the first third are cedar, leather, earth with a touch of pepper through the retrohale. Burn line is incredibly sharp and the ash is bright white and solid.
Rounding into the second third the strength start to pick up and a sweet cocoa taste joins the party. Burn and ash remain wonderful, while the draw is perfect. Finish is long and complex on the mouth with some anise and burnt toast flavors creeping in.
The final third brings a sweet almost graham cracker like flavor to the mix. Burn and draw are both spot on. I smoke this cigar down to the nub and contemplate driving back to the B&M to pick up more. Retrohale provides a twang of citrus and rich tobacco flavors
Overall this a wonderful and complex medium to medium-full stick from AJ Fernandez. Not as powerful as his MOW PA or Ruination lines but much more complex.
Final Score: 93
