so serious question guys I'm sitting here watching 1 of my favorite movies blade runner and I realize something...all my favorite movies are sci FI movies. Just to give you perspective here is a list of my top 5 movies excluding star wars of course DUH

1) STARSHIP TROOPERS
2) BLADE RUNNER
3) V FOR VENDETTA
4) AMERICAN PSYCHO
5) JUDGE DREDD

oh runner up is Aliens with sigourney Weaver because one of the main characters is corporal hicks and that's my rank and name.

I digress. Here's my question. Does this make me a geek destined to fall for women who make references to my sleepy time drooling as "waking up in a swamp like degobah" or making references to the weather like "man its colder than hoth out there"

A lot of stuff is hitting me quick after being in the marine corps for five years a lot of stuff is different. Brothers am I a lost cause?

Naw, no lost cause man.

I'm a SciFi/Anime/Computer geek and managed to find a (mostly) normal chick. Of course then you'll rub off onto her =D

Cheers :ccool:

Not a lost cause. My wife loves Sci-Fi, as does my son and daughter. (my daughter is a Dr. Who fanatic)

There are too many movies for me to list faves, but my favorite Tv series are:

Babylon 5 (hands down best sci-fi story line ever)
Firefly
Stargate (all itterations)
Farscape
Dr. Who (not just the latest ones)

This thread rules, as a total nerd. Some favorites:

Videodrome
Scanners
Solyaris (Tarkovsky)
Star Trek II
V (the original miniseries especially)
2001
The Thing
Akira
Mobile Suit Gundam (the old series, 0079 especially)
Brazil
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Neon Genesis Evangelion

Been reading a lot of H.P. Lovecraft lately, and some of his best stories are the more Science Fiction oriented yarns, like The Shadow Out of Time, or The Whisperer in Darkness.

Shit we have a ton in common. Im a huge star wars fan, and Im a lottery win from buying movie quality costumes and going to comic cons. Embrace your 'Geekdom'. Who gives a fuck what anyone else wants to label it.

I'm notorious for my convention escapades as well. Whether megacon or kawaii con or star wars celebration I put far too much time into costumes. News flash next up movie style Judge Dredd. It's gonna be epic.

I was the biggest poe fan until I stumbled across HP lovecraft. He hast to be the most talented creepy writer ever. I've read all his poetry and constantly quote him on the state of being.

Love evangelion (not a big anime fan though)
Loved the thing!

DON'T GET ME STARTED ON FIREFLY/SERENITY!!!

I organized my list by movies, tv series, and I added a few scifi books that I enjoy. I’m impressed that I see another Firefly fan. I didn’t list Serenity as a movie since I see it as a way to conclude the TV series, but it’s high on my list of movies. I’m also pleasantly surprised that someone listed my all-time favorite scifi movie, Soylent Green.

Scifi Movies:
Soylent Green
Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back
Blade Runner
2001
Dune

Scifi TV Series:
Babylon 5
Battlestar Galactica (newest release)
FireFly
Star Trek, Next Generation
The Hitchhiker

Scifi Book:
Hubbard, Battlefield Earth (book is much better than the movie)
Asimov, Foundation Series
Card, Ender’s Game

I love the warhammer 40k universe as well. Very diverse and imaginative.
I read a lot of heinlein and S Andrew Swann books.
All I really read is sci fi. You name I probably read it.
I also love that movie Sunshine about restarting the sun.
I gotta download mst3k.

Wow, this thread is making my geek radar go berserk! My wife is always teasing me about all the sci fi stuff I watch.

Some, but not all of my favorites:

Firefly/ Serenity
V (old and new)
Stargate SG1/ Atlantis/ Universe, plus all 3 movies.
Warehouse 13
Caprica was good, been wanting to watch Battlestar Gallactica
Star Wars IV, V, VI
Newest Star Trek, plus first few movies
Starship Troopers
MST3K!!! (Can never find other fans of that show)
Matrix Trilogy (although the last one was a bit disappointing)

A couple new shows that are promising:
Falling Skies
Torchwood: Miracle Day

I'm sure I'm missing some great ones, but that's a pretty good list for now.

No worries about the geek-dom. My brother is a Warhammer 40K nerd, to the point where he has his own podcast. He speaks in yoda-isms, test video games, and collects comic books. All this at the age of 29... and he married a normal/hot wife who is intelligent to boot.

One of my best friends met his smoking-hot girlfriend thanks to World of Warcraft.

You'll be fine.
