  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hey guys,

It's cold out here. The nights are even colder. And that's when I can smoke most of the time.

I'd like to get a pipe that only packs about a 15 minute bowl. Anyone have any suggestions? I've just started working from home as well, so a quick 15 minute smoke would be sweet every few hours!

Thanks!

Any pipe can be packed for a 15 minute bowl. Just pack it a third to half way depending on the size of the bowl.

If your really looking for just a small pipe see if you can find a big ben ranger or a big ben cadet. Ive got pics somewhere ill try to find the.

Yeah if you pack less that would work, but there are some great pocket pipes, Boswell's have some awesome 10 minute puffers also. But if you are looking for a cheapy, the smaller MM cobs would work a treat.

This might be a bit pricey at $100 but I've always wanted one of these little Tsuge blowfish to use as a short smoke.

Wow that is a nice looker! Might have to go looking for one of those :)
Though right now I'm just leaning towards packing a half cob. I already suck at packing though so packing a half bowl seems like it may complicate things.

I just checked their site and it looks like the only 10 minute puffer has been sold. Probably for the better :)

Thanks for sharing!

I've been eyeing churchwardens for the past month or so, so spending money on a small pipe would set me back to the beginning budget wise. I'll see how the half bowl treats me. Today was in the 40's so I packed a full bowl. Even in the 40's, after about an hour I got kind of uncomfortable. There is always wind here, so that doesn't help!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Check out Boswell's too as he sometimes releases the "pocket puffer" pipes. I have one coming for Christmas from my girlfriend. Lately, he's been releasing a few more since it's coming up on winter.

Yep I checked out the site today. They have one up there but it's sold.

I dunno, for 80 bucks, I may just get a churchwarden that I've been looking at for a while and just pack half cobs. Seems like the economical thing to do :)

Yeah they're quick sellouts and you have to sit at the computer and refresh constantly on the morning of the date they release more pipes. Then call as fast as you can to buy the pipe(s) ans have your CC ready too.

Pipes aren't like cigars - you can start a pipe, set it down and come back to it hours or days later with no major ill effects. Different tobacco/pipe combinations may behave differently, but I've found that it's not generally totally disgusting to come back to it even a week later.

Folks used to call it DGT - delayed gratification technique. They'd intentionally light the tobacco, let it go out and come back to it the next day - the slight heating of the tobacco was said to give it a stoving affect.

Me? I'm just a cheap bastard and hate to toss the tobacco out!

The problem with that is I can't leave a half smoked pipe in the apartment. It would start to smell interesting and the wife would put a stop to that really quick!!

I don't notice the smell. But my seller doesn't work that we'll anyway :) pipes don't typically have that strong leftover oder that cigars or cigarettes have.

But the simplest solution is probably just pack shorter bowls and sacrifice a little tobacco here and there. Good luck!
