  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I'm just sitting here thinking about my tastes lately as I fire up a Tat Victorias for the first time. I can already tell I'm going to love it. These days I'm finding the cigars I like are the coronas, petite coronas, etc. such as Tat Angeles, Illusione 68, La Riqueza 5s and the like. Not that I don't enjoy Robustos and such, I just don't think they pack in as much flavor...

I've been 'seriously' smoking cigars for about 9 months now and it's weird how my tastes and size preferences have changed. I used to think that bigger meant better...

Anybody else go through the same thing as a beginner?

I started out with robustos mostly; now I drift towards coronas. But it really depends on the moment.

I think you will find that both Pete and Dion agree with you, in respect to the "sizes" you are smoking now.

That size cigar; length and ring gauge, and the amount of tobacco, they feel is the perfect size to experience the true essence of the tobacco. What the cigar was meant to taste and smoke like.

Im a corona man myself, I find them to be just awesome, in terms of flavor they just cant be beat. I still think that the Montecristo #3 is one of the best in the category.

That's good to hear about Pete and Dion's thoughts. The box of Illusione 68s I bought are tasting perfect.

I do think I prefer the Angeles over this Victorias, though it is still quite good. I think 38 is a bit too small of a ring gauge.

Another example, had my first MC#4 this weekend and to me it was much better than the #2...

I know what you mean Patrick. I tend to like toros and robustos when I'm on the golf course, but when I just want to enjoy some flavor relaxing, I tend to drift towards the smaller smokes a lot of the time. Also, I don't have time to smoke a big cigar a lot. The Illusione 68 and tat angeles are two of my favorite smokes.

Hey Patrick!

That Illusion you gifted me at the mini-herf was excellent! I think I am going to invest in a box. I am smoking a Cohiba Siglo II now and it is awesome!

I really do enjoy my smaller ring gage cigars as of late too. On rare occasion pull out the Churchill size cigars, I just don't seem to have to time to devote to them.

as a newbie, the heat from thinner ring gauges bothered me, as i continued to smoke, and SLOWED DOWN, i too began falling in love with lanceros and petites, and i'm very very happy about it!

I think specifically with the Tatuajes the smaller the better (although I haven't tried the petite tatuaje yet).

I don't think it's true for all cigars.

You hit the nail on the head, slowing down will cut down on the heat overall. I love my Lanceros too.

That was the key right there my brother!

I hear the same thing from people that complain about a Short Story....and they smoked it in ten minutes!

I agree in the case of the Tats, though with other cigars it all depends. But lately it's a rare day when I light up something longer (smoking time) than a robusto or lancero. This way I can get in 2 in a day much more easily.

BTW, Patrick, I like the Victorias better than the Angeles by a little, though you can't puff on it too hard or it gets to hot/bitter. Smoked slowly, the final third of a Victorias is close to Cigar Heaven.

I really need to try an Illusione 68 soon, if it's as good as I hope I'll be looking to score a box some day.

I think it holds true with the Illusione's too....Dion will tell you that the MK is the ideal size and shape to get the true experience of his blend!

i started smoking the big ones just because too me it seemed like a "real" cigar.. now that i have been focusing on taste, most of the smaller smokes have been my preference.. i first noticed how tasty they can be when i had a La Aroma De Cuba...
