I'm split on the whole issue. While I don't like someone blowing cigarette smoke in my face while I'm trying to enjoy a meal, I also would like the priveledge of smoking a cigar at an establishment once in a while. Smoking bans also make it harder and harder to continue the hobby.

I work in the convenience store industry. My understanding is that most of the c-stores in Vegas have slots and/or video poker. By banning smoking, the customers will have to take a break and go outside which will be inconvenient. Nobody wants to take a break when they're on a streak and who wants to smoke outside in Vegas in the summer? C-stores are not happy about this because casinos and bars have an exemption.

That's pretty much how I feel as well...I do enjoy being able to eat my meals now without the smell of cigarette smoke, and even when I was a cigarette smoker, I did not smoke in restraunts because I felt that it detracted from my meal, and I didn't want to sit in a smoking section and be completely enveloped in smoke. Though it is nice to be able to go to a restraunt, eat my meal, then head to the bar and have a nice cigar.

I believe the property owner should have the right to decide whether he allows smoking. The customer has the right to decide which establishment to patronize. The employee has the right to decide where they want to work and the employer should be allowed to hire as he wishes.

I always thaught part of the appeal of vegas was the whole sin-city thing, and that included being able to light up a nice smoke wherever you wanted...although I've never been there, so I could be wrong

isn't it amazing! more rights! my right is infringing on your right. so, let's make some more laws. my personal favorite is the helmet law. as for smoking bans, San Diego has gone absurdly over-the-top! Stand-by to Stand-by,,,,

as Bachman Turner Overdrive would say, "You Aint Seen Nothing Yet!!"

Very well put. The establishment and the patron should make the decision. If I want a smoke free hotel room, I can stay at a Marriott which is all smoke free now; but its my choice not some idiot legislating what I can and cant do. Let the market decide. I don't like to sit next to a table full of cigarettes at dinner either so I chose smoke free resturants when out of California where EVERTHING is smoke free. Again, my choice.

Its a slippery slope to legislate what may or is bad for people. Just look at New York and the ban on transfats. What's next? Caffiene? Candy? High performance cars? Motorcyles?

Leave it up to the consumer and lets see what happens.

The talk radio guys in MS have been saying this for some time now. It just makes me mad when i think about the gov't telling a business owner what to do with a LEGAL product.

Abilene, Texas is about 90 miles from me. I lived there about 15 years finishing high school, and attending college. My company is based there. Thursday night the city council approved a smoking ban.

In Abilene it is now illegal to smoke in public with a few exceptions. All city parks are smoke free. All bars, restaurants and other businesses are now smoke free. The fair grounds, civic center and auditorium are smoke free. Private clubs can only allow smoking if all employees are volunteers.

There is a very nice cigar lounge there called "The Leaf". They sell cigars and coffee and allow BYOB. They have WIFI. The new ordinance bans smoking in any tobacco store or lounge that sells alcohol or allows alcohol to be brought in. A friend of mine attends his homebrewing clubs there and they will no longer be able to sample their projects.

We live in a very conservative part of the country and property rights are a big thing. One wonders how a such a violation of property rights can be allowed.
