So I had a run tonight that happens sometimes; three stinkers in a row.

1 was not unexpected, bad draw which is typical and not much flavor, but the other 2 are old standbys, maybe too old and the flavor just wasn't there. Just papery and gross.

I had a VERY spicy lunch today, I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with spicey food throwing off cigar flavors later in the day.

Or did I just age the 2 favorites for too long or at an off humidity point, even though others seem fine?

Spicy food can absolutely affect the flavors of a cigar. Living in Nashville I have a fondness for Hot Chicken. If I get Hot Chicken on the way to the B&M my food is great, while my cigars tend to be average at best afterwards.

The flavors we pick out in good cigars are so nuanced, that I feel my whole environment effects how each cigar tastes to me. Not just the food I've eaten, but what I'm drinking, or the mood I'm in, or the temperature, or what kind of stress I've handled. Everything. It's good in a way because each smoke becomes its own unique experience, but also bad because it makes it almost impossible to recapture a particularly good one.

That sounds about right! They're all different, even the consistent ones.

This time seemed significant though.

Spicy food definitely makes a difference in how a cigar taste afterwards for me and its not that good. Also, certain beers throw off flavors. I really like IPA's, but I feel they don't work well with cigars to my palate. Now Brown Ales, Porters and Stouts work great as does a Bud Light after a hot day working in the yard.

I've noticed that not only spicy foods effect the flavor of my cigars but starchy foods are even worse for me. Pasta and potatoes really alter my taste buds so I don't even partake for at least a couple hours after eating.
