  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I’ve noticed that smokes heavy with a lot of heavy spicy pepper qualities have great flavor but irritate the back of my throat.
Over the last few days I’ve been smoking sticks that have more mellow earthy and leather like qualities without the heavy pepper and spiciness and may have solved my irritation problem.
Has anyone else had this experience?

...If I age my cigars will the heavy spicy pepper thing chill out a bit?

I find that sips of water help with the real spicy sticks.

Look around for a profile ye're fonder of. A mellower cigar. Something creamy; the sort.

Definitely a Pepin thing, if you still like spicy cigars, try the LFD's as the spice hit your tongue up front. or otherwise. like others suggest, try something more mellow.

That's the ligero! Stronger leaves are felt toward the back of the mouth, and the lighter ones are tasted with the front. At least I think. You're probably just feeling the increased nicotine punch that comes with the stronger cigars.

Pepin sticks (especially the JJ maduro and blues) burn the back of my throat as well.....I love the taste so much that I get past that. :blob:

Pepin, Illusione and Tatuaje actually give me a touch of heartburn but it usually calms down in the last 2/3. That final two thirds is well worth the burn IMHO.

If they bother you enough to make smoking them uncomfortable by all means find something with a different profile, God knows there's enough choices.

I get this with extremely peppery cigars as well. I HATE IT! Because of this I have sold all my Opus. It will mellow out, as stated above, but do not expect it to become palatable for probably 5 years in extreme situations. As little as 2 years may make the cigar smokeable but it will likely still cause irritation. Sorry bro. Some of us just have a weak palate.

I tried a Tat Havana VI Artista; it had some spice but not too bad for my palate. The 601 Blue was like smoking a pepper mill...had to set it down.
Bummer because I love full flavor but not crazy pepper. With trial and error I am learning which smokes deliver max flavor with minimal spice...thanks for the help bros!
