  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Am I off my rocker? Or is there some kind of correlation between a longer stem length and a nice cool/dry smoke?

For some reason I just thought this was some kind of universal truth, but I began to question that today. I have been Googling... but I don't Google as well as I would like it seems. I really can't find anything on the issue.

What's your take - empirical or antidotal. It's all good. On average, does a longer stem make for a cooler/dryer smoke?

Yes. Definitely. That's why I was recommending against the nosewarmer as a good starter pipe to the couple guys that brought it up.
Right - I thought so - thanks Clint. It's such common knowledge that no one really even feels the need to dispute it it seems lol.

Anyway - I got to thinking that because all my pipes are so short - I wonder if I am less adversely affected by balsa filters than say a person who's smoking a longer stemmed pipe with a filter. You think there might be something to that? You think a balsa filter has less effect on the taste in a shorter pipe than a longer?

I also read up that upon breaking in the pipes, once the cake formed within the bowl all the pipes will get a little cooler rather than burning hot. I notice it with my Savinelli pipe but it still is burning warmer. Hopefully over time all the pipes cool off a little bit. Damn, I need to smoke more.
