  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Suggestions for optimum pleasure. :|

Fellas,

Here is the deal, I am new to this. I don't have much of an inventory just yet.(working on it quickly) I have purchased a few boxes in the last few days, but of course I do not think they will be ready for smoking, perhaps I am wrong. What can I get now that should be very enjoyable without age? I love the Pardon Maduro k series, but I know at least 2 years on those sticks. PAM 64s probably a year on those, Tats, DPG, etc, etc...

I know a lot of folks subscribe to the idea that non-ccs can be smoked post-haste. But I am not so sure... I have had a 3 year old Padron M 2k that was amaaaazing, and a few out of the B&M that were good, but not woah. I know many of you brothers can relate.

So what is the dealieyo?

Kindest regards,
Brandon

I agree that aged Padrons are awesome...but I smoke them right away too. I have a box of 2000 series and plan to smoke/give away half of them and age the other half. I just bought a box of Londres and plan to tuck away just 5 of them to see if the cheapies age well, and smoke the rest of those puppies up.

I guess my philosophy is that just because a cigar will be better later doesn't mean you can't enjoy it now. I'd say try one of those Padrons from the box and see what you think. If they are quite enjoyable now...but you know they'll be even better later...you can always get a 2nd box for aging :)

I've been told that the Tat Havana VI line and Cabaiguans age well, but I've enjoyed both right out of the box as well.

Well if you are goin gto buy boxes that " need" 2 years of age, then what will you smoke for the next 2 years? If you want to age smokes, you need to buy extra boxes and set them aside for that purpose. Padrons smoke just fine right now, as do CAO, Torano, Tatuaje, Fuente...etc.... Of course they will get better with age, but you gotta smoke now as well.

What boxes did you purchase? I'd say try the Tat Havana VI Victorias.
PAM 64's
PM 2k/3k
Tempus Magistri
Tempus Creo / half
Hemingway short stories
NUB habana 464t / half
Ashton VSG
DPG JJ Maduro
Half a box of OpusX XXX
Half a box of OpusX Super Beli
Sancho Panza Double Maduro / half

What am I missing? :|

just wondering, have you tried all of these before purchasing entire boxes?
I know we all have different tastes, but that will get him more than started with some good sticks. Afterall if he doesn't like them right now, then he'll be able to visit one every six months until it's reached it's peak.

First I will ask how often do you smoke or try to smoke?

Like others have said some cigars age nicely, I know the Short Stories do. So do you have the will power to let them sit without touching them. If you do then lock them up and them start resting, then find some cigars that you like to smoke now and find a box you like every now and then and throw it in with the rest for long term aging. I am no expert on which cigar will age well but it has not hurt any cigar I have aged.

If you know how all of the cigars taste then let them all rest for a month or two, try on of each and see if there is a big diffrence. them try to wait longer the next time. This way you can tell which cigars age better than the others.

All else fails smoke what you like and like what you smoke!

Enjoy.

I have indeed, at least the blend not all the vitolas.

Hey and if I don't like them, its good for all my brothers right?

:)
Also one thing to keep in mind the flavor profile can be a little diffrent in the diffrent sizes. The blend will be the same but how it changes can be a little diffrent in each size.

Great advice brothers, keep it coming.

jmatkins -
During the winter its very cold and snowy here, so I am very lucky to burn a cigar once a week. During the summer I have a lot of yard work and enjoy the outdoors very much. Fly fishing, mountain biking, etc. So I plan on burning quite a few everyday if I am so lucky.

Sorry for the minor threadjack. Back to subject: as John suggested, petit coronas are yer safest bet for quick smokes. Try the La Riqueza No. 5 for example. Illusione has small cigars too; some LFD DL Chiselitos...
