  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Was researching Tatuaje Cabinet Tainos and came across this warning about
Criollo and Corojo leaf. So what do the experts say?

One warning here is that these cigars must be stored at a lower humiidity because of the Criollo/Corojo blend. Keep them in a humidor that is under 65% relative humidity range for at least a week to ten days before you smoke one — somewhere in the low 60% range I think is ideal for them.

If you don’t, and they have been kept at a higher humidity range of 70% before you bought them, you will have problems with them and won’t enjoy their full potential. Reports of burn issues and poor construction cropped up about these last year, and storage at improper humidity is responsible for that. That is true for any brand of cigar with this kind of tobacco in it.

This is interesting. I've heard, on the flip side, that many oily maduros should be kept at 70% for them to be at their oily-best (Man o War Ruination, Liga Privada, some others have been mentioned).

I only have 65% beads in my humidors, but I'm wondering if I should have a 70% bin too maybe...

I keep everything at a stable 65 and everything seems fine to me, when any smokes get to 70+ I think that is where you run into burn issues / more bitterness etc.. That is just my opinion, could be completely off here.

This could pretty much hold true for any cigar that you have bought, whether from a B&M or the internet.

I stopped keeping my cigars at 70 about two years ago because I found some truth to the corojo/criollo claim. Many of the pepin rolled cigars of mine had draw issues and the wrappers would tear as I smoked. I saw the light ordered 65% beads and since then keep all my cigars at 65%. No more draw problems, more even burns, and no more exploding cigars. I still occasionally have issues with the small RG cigars like the Padilla 1932 Perlas and Tatuaje Petites. The issues are greatly reduced though.

We have all finally caught up with our european bretheren, they keep their cigars in the 62%-65% range.

Yeah I try to keep everything at 65 as well but 61/62 for criollo/corojo? I guess I need to plan my smoking ahead or stock another humidor just for them.

I don't see much of a reason to go less than 65 if you're already there. If you were at 70 I would say sure drop it down to 62ish or something, 3% isn't much.

I keep all my smokes right around between 64-67% and I have never had any problems. I have always kept my Tatuajes at that RH and I have had just about every size and line at one time or another in there. Never had any problems with them. If you are at 65% don't worry about dropping it any lower. I wouldn't.
