With the onset of Winter, I haven't been able to do as many reviews. Steve (aka Headbanger) graciously bombed me with an ample supply of smaller stogies so I'll have plenty of material to keep myself occupied until the warm weather returns! Yesterday was a horrible day and I wanted nothing more than a little time alone so after the kid went down for his nap and I had eaten some lunch I dug through the humidor. I came out with a Tatuaje Petite Reserva.
Upon looking at this stick I felt like a test subject in a Pavlov experiment. It's an absolutely gorgeous cigar. Nice chocolate brown color, tight seams, nicly applied cap. Though measuring a somewhat petite 4.5 x 32, the cigar feels well packed. The aroma is an exquisite earthy, chocolatey mixture.
After careful consideration I scrapped a little off the top of the cap with my double guillotine cutter. The draw was a smidge on the tight side and carried flavors of slightly sweet tobacco with a delayed pepper sensation on the back of my tongue.
Torched right up and immediately I'm hit with a powerful leather/pepper combo. After the first few puffs I felt that perhaps I had bitten off more than I could chew...after all I hadn't had a cigar in a few weeks, maybe I should have chose something a little milder :dunno:. This cigar may be small, but it means business!
The burn on this cigar was impeccible and it was pouring out smoke...even when at rest. For about the first third the flavors were the same...in your face leather and pepper. Somewhere toward the end of the 1/3 and the beginning of the 2/3 the pepper died away and the leather became creamier.
A little ways into the 2/3, there developed a spice flavor...something along the lines of nutmeg. There also developed a small crack in the wrapper. The only real effect it had on the cigar was to casue the burn to waver for a bit, but it soon returned to it's razor sharpness. Impeccible.
The 3/3 was the best for sure. The leather remained dominant, but mellowed some and the creaminess joined by the nutmeg flavor made for a very nice creshendo.
Overal it was a nice little stick. Smoking time for me was around 45 mintues and it was an enjoyable (as well as much needed) break. I look forward to revisiting this one at some point down the road (or later this week :laugh
