  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Last night I was outside enjoying a smoke. Off in the distance near my fence I see a shadow scurry across the yard. I thought maybe it was the stupid squirrel that toys with my dog all day. I didn't think much of it.

This morning though, I was cleaning the pool out, and out of the corner of my eye, I see this huge animal chilling on the fence.

The beast:

I have never seen a possum that big before. It jumped into my neighbors yard.

Don't mess with it man they are nasty! And I'm not sure but I don't think that they go out during the day. So he may be sick. At any rate give your neighbor a heads up & watch out for any household pets.

That's a small one. I almost hit one with my car the other night that was about the size of a trash can... would have ruined my car.

Keep an eye out if he starts hanging out in your yard, You don't want that, especially if you have fruit trees.

That is a popular misconception, they will go out during the day to look for food or shelter especially in colder weather, and they are highly resistant to rabies. But I wouldn't be in any hurry to get too close to it either way.

mmmmm....possum.

LOL, Just kidding. Yes they are nocturnal, but it is not uncommon to see one in daylight.
Possum stew! (End redneck voice)

I would hate too see anything bigger than that roaming my hood. The only possums I have seen usually small.

I have one that visits my catfood bowl outside a few times a month. It's rather docile. We open the door, it looks up, and goes back to eating.

On a side note. Why do they play dead? They are scavengers. It seems they would know better.

Had one in my garage a few weeks ago. I scooted him out with a broom. Next day my neighbor told me there was a possum in his garage.
