  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I'm sure some of these stories have been around awhile, but I'm also sure that we all know people exactly like this ...

I was at the checkout of a K-Mart. The clerk rang up my total as $46.64. I gave her a fifty dollar bill. She gave me back $46.64. I gave the money back to her and told her that she had made a mistake in MY favor. She became indignant and informed me she was educated and knew what she was doing, and returned the money again. I gave her the money back again ... same scenario! I left the store with $46.64.

I walked into a Starbucks with a buy-one-get-one-free coupon for a Grande Latte. I handed it to the girl and she looked over at a little chalkboard that read Buy one-get one free. "They're already buy-one-get-one-free," she said, "so I guess they're both free." She handed me my free Lattes and I walked out the door.

One day I was walking down the beach with some friends when one of them shouted, "Look at that dead bird!" Another friend looked up at the sky and said, "Where?"

While looking at a house, my brother asked the real estate agent which direction was north because, he explained, he didn't want the sun waking him up every morning. She asked, "Does the sun rise in the north?" When my brother explained that the sun rises in the east, and has for sometime, she shook her head and said, "Oh I don't keep up with that stuff."

I used to work in technical support for a 24/7 call center. One day I got a call from an individual who asked what hours the call center was open. I told him, "The number you dialed is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week." He responded, "Is that Eastern or Pacific time?" Wanting to end the call quickly, I said, "Uh, Pacific."

My sister has a lifesaving tool in her car designed to cut through a seat belt if she gets trapped. She keeps it in the trunk.

My friends and I were on a beer run and noticed that the cases were discounted 10%. Since it was a big party, we bought 3 cases. The cashier multiplied 3 times 10% and gave us a 30% discount.

I couldn't find my luggage at the airport baggage area, so I went to the lost luggage office and told the woman there that my bags never showed up. She smiled and told me not to worry because she was a trained professional and I was in good hands. "Now," she asked me, "has your plane arrived yet?"

While working at a pizza parlor I observed a man ordering a small pizza to go. He appeared to be alone and the cook asked him if he would like it cut into 4 pieces or 6. He thought about it for some time before responding. "Just cut it into 4 pieces; I don't think I'm hungry enough to eat 6."

Funny,,,these are real life scenarios as I have been a part of the first story,,and finally kept the money after the teller was starting to become indignant.

Where are these people when I'm out shopping?

Now maybe it's a little technical, but a coworker suggested I move a fiber optic linked controller closer to a robot because it wasn't working right. I had to explain why he was a dumbass when you have 10,000 feet of fiber optic whether it's laid out or rolled up the signal goes through the entire length.

But only if it's laid out flat. The light molecules slow down when they have to go uphill.

I stopped for cigarettes in North Carolina one time on the way back from Myrtle Beach. The store was advertising buy three packs, get one pack free. I asked the girl behind the counter if I could buy three cartons and get one carton free. She said she couldn't do that. The deal was only for pack sales. So I asked her if I bought thirty packs would I get ten free. She said yes. So she proceeded to open four cartons of cigarettes and ring up each pack individually. She put them back in the cartons, sealed them up, and handed them to me. I walked out the door shaking my head.

One time I gave a cashier a $50 to pay for a $4 purchase, she gave me the $50 and then the change($96), I told her she gave me to much and she said that she had not. So I showed her the "change" she gave me, to which she said, "I didn't give you that $50, yours is right here" pointing to some money in the drawer. I asked her to call the manager over, because I am honest like that, and she said "that isn't necessary, I gave you the correct change". I think she thought I was trying to get another $50 or something so I tried to explain it again, and finally she said, "Sir, you are holding up my line". Baffled, I walked over to the manager and told him the story. He was probably barely 20 years old. So he goes over and talks to her and I see her getting mad and throwing her hands about. He walks back over and tells me, "she said she gave you the correct change sir". It was almost laughable at this point. So then I just wrote my phone number down and told them to call me when the drawer comes up $50 short. Never heard from them.

Just today my bill was $6.10. I handed the clerk $6.25 then found a dime and switched the quarter out after the clerk had piunched in $6.25. He honestly could not figure out we were even and he didn't need to give me any change. I finally just walked away with him still holding my .15 change.

I've had this sort of thing happen a lot. When i tell the person and show them how I should have gotten so much money...they look at me like I'M THE ONE who's dumb for having told them about it, when I could have easily gotten away with it.
