Yes it's a constrictor, but they don't crush there prey. What they do is wrap it and squeeze a little harder each time it exhales. So it's food is suffocated not crushed. Ether way not a good outcome for the kid. By the way the snake is a small Reticulated Python (Python reticulatus).
