So much glue on the band that it tore a hole in the wrapper.

I dunno: maybe half an inch. If I am going to peel the band off I usually do it after the ash drops off so I don't make the ash drop off somewhere inconvenient.

I find the hotter the band gets the easier the glue releases. Maybe you removed the band a bit early, but probably it was just a lousy glue job. I've also been told that one way to know a cigar is at the proper humidity is a loose band. Hope you didn't ruin an enjoyable stick.

Watch some videos on how fast cigars are labeled at the factories... theres bound to be a few mistakes here and there with too much glue. It happens, the cigar still smokes well, no biggie.
