  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Once again I am new to cigars and the terminology in general. However, I recently had a cigar that was very difficult to draw any smoke out of. I believe this is what is called a tight draw. My question is what makes it that way?

A couple things.

Poor construction at the factory is probably #1

However if your humidity is too high, that can cause the filler to swell and make it hard to draw as well.

The way it is wrapped generally. Some cigars get wrapped too tightly, causing the air to not flow adequately upon the draw. Humidity also causes it to swell. And don't throw any cigars like that away, use a Henry's Draw tool to open it up! Or one more cut on the end opens it up.

If you don't want to drop the bucks for a draw poker per se, use a pipe tool/paper clip/coat hanger (don't scare the wife or gf).

Make sure your humidity is between 62-70%

If it's still plugged, toss it and grab another, it's all about enjoyment.

Poor construction and too high of humidity storage are the two most common.

What RH are you storing your smokes in?

How long have you stored them prior to smoking them?

Have you tried "dry boxing" them for a few days prior to smoking to see if that makes a difference?

I hope this helps
