  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

To smoke it or not to smoke it? That is the question.

I wanted to run this by all of you for your input on something I have been thinking about.
I bought an estate pipe a while back in almost pristine condition. If it was smoked it was only once maybe twice. But honestly I think it is unsmoked due to the lack of any cake and tobacco odor. The box, sock, paperwork and even the original receipt dating 27 MAY 71 is all in great shape. I took this quick photo but it does not do justice on the pipe. It is a Comoy's Old Bruyere 184.

So, the question is as above. Would you smoke it or leave it as is?

Have the same question about a new Hektor Weibe radiator pipe I bought a few months ago and haven't gotten around to smoking.

I would smoke it. I love how the old comoys smoke. As far as collectable, it's worth only what someone would pay. In the Comoys lines the Blue Riband is the more valued line.

Are you worried about de-valuing a collectable? Do you have intentions of reselling it? If your intentions are to resell it then no don't smoke it. Although only the Blue Ribands really pull the big bucks.

Remember, a pipe is just a vessel in which to burn tobacco.

Either way enjoy your find.

Like a few others have said, if you plan on re-selling it then I wouldn't smoke it. But if you plan on keeping it, hell just smoke it and sit back and enjoy!! It would definitely make a real nice story to tell people when you smoke from it and show them the receipt and extras you got with it!!
