What is a "tobacco road"??

What can I say................I get inspired a couple of times a year and get creative......................sometimes! Most of the time I'm too damn busy!

It is a great song and Eric Burdon does a great version, very soulful, of course Johnny & Edgar Winter do a great version of the song.......... but the Lou Rawls version was tops IMHO.

So they packed these big barrels with tobacco which they called hogsheads!

Why did they call it a hogshead?

'Cause of those folks across the pond me laddies, the Brits ! It was a unit of measure!

So these hogsheads were pulled by cows, horses, oxen or slaves from a port or a plantation to the tobacco factories...........the road along which these were pulled was called "tobacco road".

These 1,000 pound hogsheads made their own road 'cause they flattened anything in their path!
