Very cool! My friend roasted coffee in Lake Tahoe and it's not easy. I'd love to see photos of your machine.
I’ll post a pic of it and my next batch here shortly, still trying to decide what the next batch will be, it took me three attempts to get a batch of the Nicaraguan that was drinkable!

Nice! I had no idea they made roasters that small.
It’ll do a half lb at a time, when I first started researching machine’s I was a bit concerned about the batch size but once I started thinking about it I realized it’s plenty for me, I almost always have different coffee for mornings and afternoons anyway so a half lb of each will get me through a week if I wanted to do that much at once.

I’ve roasted just a little bit in cast iron skillets. Have a few more batches of green beans needing to be cooked up. Haven’t decided if it’s for me or not. Super cool setup. I considered getting a popcorn machine. I’ve seen pretty good results on YouTube with one of those.
How did it work out with the pan? It seems like it would be difficult to get an even roast.

glad to see you using Jon Burman for green beans.

He is a quality guy, and offers good coffee at a good price.
I have been roasting my own since 2011, and have done 616 batches so far.

I have roasting notes for all of them.

I use a stovetop pop corn popper with a flat blade agitator versus a wire one.

works well and is predictable, I am pleased with the coffee.

Recently I have been trying different commercial coffees ( wife bought a pod machine ) and I still prefer my own roasts.

keep records and in a few months you will be able to nail it down easily.

remember, you CAN re-roast a batch if you want to ..........

I was wondering about re-roasting, I pitched the first batch of Indonesian because everything I read said it wouldn’t chan anything. I did start a roasting journal and have been doing small batches, so that I can get an idea of what’s needed.

it would not help to re-roast a really dark batch, obviously.

with my setup I can dump out a little as I go ,so I can blend 2 or 3 different roasts of the same beans.

makes some interesting coffee...........
