You might've been smoking that, I don't know when the embargo was lifted. I was just a young punk back then and didn't have the plethora of cigar information access I do now. I have read that before the embargo the JdN was pretty popular. I smoked mostly Macanudo, punch, hoyo etc back then. I liked the Hondurans which were considered stronger then.
I want to test some of my old school favorites- I bought some Nat Shermans. Was considering Bauza, a Fuente made old school cigar. Used to love Ashton was my favorite back then. Man, I didn't know shit about cigars but this is when I started smoking 4-5 cigars a day. Tried so many bad ones
