The Toraño Family Cigar Company issued a press release on Tuesday morning announcing that they have reached an agreement with Sam Leccia Cigar Co. to be the distributors of this new line of products.

The agreement goes into effect on June 14, 2011.

The announcement comes on the heels of news spreading throughout the cigar business on Monday that Sam Leccia was being sued by his former employer, Oliva Cigar, for violating a five-year non-compete agreement. Leccia parted ways with Oliva at the end of 2010 and had been very reluctant to speak about his time and work with Oliva, including in this interview he did with Examiner.com on May 31.

In the press release, Charlie Toraño, president of Toraño Family Cigar Company said that “We are excited about working with one of the industry’s most creative minds. Sam Leccia has a unique energy and approach to the cigar industry. We look forward to the collaboration between our two companies.”

In the same release, Leccia noted that he has “always had great respect and admiration for the Toraño family. Their expertise and history in growing tobacco and manufacturing great cigars is well known. Since their announcement last year whereby they took back control of the distribution of their brands, it’s clear that Toraño is focused on expanding its distribution company and providing tobacconists with the service and cigars they deserve. I strongly feel that this team will play an invaluable role for the growth of Sam Leccia Cigar Co.”

Leccia announced the launch of his new company on May 24, 2011. In that announcement, he also unveiled his initial cigar offering, the "Debut," Leccia's first release will be a blend of Nicaraguan, Honduran and Santo Domingo tobaccos, and will be available in three sizes: a 5" x 60 ring gauge double robusto, a 7" x 60 double Churchill, and a 6 1/2" x 52 figurado.

The announcement adds a bit more intrigue in the weeks leading up to the International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers convention and trade show, coming up in mid-July in Las Vegas, where many new cigars and accessories are unveiled. In August 2010, Toraño reclaimed their distribution rights, and recently acquired entered into a partnership with Graycliff Cigar Company, and will be distributing their cigars as well. Toraño has also announced that they will have two new brand launches that will be announced in the coming weeks.

Sam Leccia confirmed via e-mail that he will be at the Toraño Family Cigar Company booth during the IPCPR trade show, and will have his Debut on display.
