I worry about this all the time with my brother in law inforcement. You can count on prayers bro...sorry to her this and hope they recover.
In my opinion I feel crimes like this with all first responders should be a federal offense punishable up to death.

Lakeside Deputy-Involved Shooting
Acts of Heroism

As has been widely reported in the media, Lakeside OIS subject Daniel Robert Witczak had a bedside arraignment yesterday, at Scripps Mercy in Hillcrest. As this investigation has now proceeded over to the Office of the San Diego District Attorney, there will not be any further comment with regard to the incident/investigative details.

Deputy Craig Johnson has been released from Scripps Mercy Hospital today, and the family has asked for privacy while he recovers at home.

However, as this investigation has proceeded, Sheriff Bill Gore believes now is an appropriate time to highlight the bravery, loyalty, and dedication to duty our personnel displayed in the midst of potentially lethal gunfire. It is important the public knows the caliber of the deputy sheriffs that patrol their streets every day.

As an example, one of the deputies who initially went to the apartment with Deputies Perez and Johnson to arrest Witczak, physically shielded his partners after the shooting began. This deputy was able to assist Craig Johnson to a position of safety in the adjoining vacant apartment. Several responding deputies rushed toward the apartment in an effort to not only rescue their fallen comrades, but keep others from harm.

Sheriff Gore commented, "I wanted to take this opportunity, while the events of Tuesday are fresh in the minds of the public, to recognize the efforts of the many deputies, individually and collectively, who put their own lives at risk to save two of their own. I have never been more proud to be their Sheriff than I am today."

just received this from our Sheriff:

At 8pm on November 13th, exactly 7 weeks to the day after he was brought to Sharp hospital clinging to life following being shot by a child molest suspect with a high-powered rifle, Ali Perez walked to a waiting vehicle for the trip home.

Sergeant Craig Johnson, several of Ali's other partners, and many family members and friends were there to see him off. The Perez procession home included two private vehicles and their four motorcycle and two patrol car escort.

Our prayers, good wishes, and support have clearly been a factor in speeding up Ali and Craig's recovery. Our continued presence in their lives will no doubt help them reach new milestones on the road back.

Bill Gore, Sheriff

Awesome news Jeff!! it's really good to see that the prayers for these two brave officers have been answered. As mickey mentioned we should also keep praying for their continued recovery.

This is also a really good reminder to me that I should be praying for our law enforcement officers not just when something like this happens but on a daily basis. The level of commitment that is required to be a law enforcement professional is very high and we all need to be more appreciative of the job you do and the sacrifices you make on our behalf.
