  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Good god these guys know how to make beer. The beer has a real good malty flavor with notes of coffee and bitter chocolate. If I were to compare how it pours to something I would have to say freshly drained well used diesel motor oil. This stuff is DARK and the head is brown. The only thing I could really compare it to is Mackeson Triple Stout but with a coffee flavor. The Mackeson is a bit sweeter too.

I meant to pair this with a cigar but at a hair under 10% abv I never took it to work with me. I had visions of my wife picking me up after a shift at the B&M real pissed. I ended up only drinking it when I was done with work and the smoking was over. I hope they make this stuff a regular addition to the line. It's the second time now that they made a version of it.

Ooh and I will add this also for anyone that might be interested in this. Unless you live real close you cannot get it. These scratch series beers are only for sale out of the brewery. This one would be even harder to get a hold of due to a very low yield thanks a valving problem at the brewery. There is only one growler allowed per customer and I already went through mine. :frownno:

Sorry it's sort of like me reviewing Opus X football perhaps since no one else can get one to try.

I want to like Troegg's since they are local, but they don't put enough body in their beer. Haven't tried this one yet, but very disappointed in the Troegellator, which for an 8% dark beer comes across as thin & watery.

Mackeson's XXX was amazing when you could get the UK stuff, but the Mackesons brewed here is NOT the same.

I might suggest trying Dogfish Head Palo Santo Marron.

Very tasty and it comes in at 12% alc by vol.

Yes you may! In fact, you're the second person today to recommend it. Have to look inro finding some. I don't drink a lot of beer, so prefer full flavor & full alcohol.:glassesgr The alcohol has to be well integrated though, or it will taste like:hammersma

Double Chocolate Stout by Wells & Young's Brewing Co. is a good one too!

I'm also a big fan of Lion Stout.

Two I'm real interested in trying is La Fin Du Monde by Unibroue, it's a Belgian Style Blonde Ale.

....the other is Johnny Cask, it's a Dogfish Head 75 Minute IPA.

ditto on the Young's. Love Mackeson. Don't know the Lion. Can't get any Bell's out this way :disappoin I would love to try The Abyss from Deschutes in Oregon.

A friend from Quebec brought some La Fin to a party and I sampled one, but after I had been drinking a bit. Kinda kicked my heinie with the 9% unbeknownst to me :hammersma Excellent brew.

No Palo Santo at my local spots, but tried the Raisen D'Etre. Very good!
The Raisen D'Etre is one of my wife's faves believe it or not. I feel lucky she's a beer girl. One of my friends that works in a brewery from my hometown was also singing the praises of Palo Santo. I need to look for some.

Figured I'd do a little update here. Due to the popularity of this scratch and the one previous to it that was similar Troegs has introduced as a year round beer the Java Head Stout. So any of you guys that are in the distribution area that want to try a good coffee stout give these a shot.

If you are not in the area let me know I could hook you up. I'm not saying it's blow your socks off but it is damn tastey. The scratch version I believe was mo' betta and had a better flavor/was not pasteurized or filtered.
