Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.
+1 this is what I doThe general consensus is to leave them in with the caps off, especially if the tube is cedar lined.
yup... dittoI go against the grain here. I may take them out to check to make sure there are no issues, but beyond that I leave 'em alone. Sealed up.
Me too!I go against the grain here. I may take them out to check to make sure there are no issues, but beyond that I leave 'em alone. Sealed up.
^^^This. I have found over the years that tubos are often a bit "wet" upon arrival. After getting them to the preferred RH they are capped tightly. After I purchase cigars with tubes I like to keep the caps off for about a month to get to my preferred RH levels, then cap on all the way inside the box. If you don't like tubes save the money and purchase sans tube.
I really dont agree with you brother, tubos are a bit moist but as you mentioned they are not air tight . The same issue with jars but you dont open them for a month and let all that wonderful smell go to waste wich will affect the taste. You have to let them rest with caps off
Only playing Devils advocate here....which is a role I enjoy from time to time, but I read a post from a Mod on another respectable CC forum (which I know you're a member of as well Ben..as are several here) that differs in opinion to this. My knowledge/experience is minimal compared to most, but here's his thoughts on tubes. The travel/damage aspect certainly makes sense as to the original intent of the tube IMO, but whadda I know?? Admittedly not a ton, but i'm workin' on that :computer:.The point of a tubos is for it to mature in the tube sealed!
