My local b&m sent me this email today:

Friends, please join us in the fight to protect our rights as smokers. The General Assembly is in session and is to vote on the 25th on a number of Bills concerning our rights as smokers in the Commonwealth. Please take a moment to review the website www.savemycigar.org and the bills that are going before the General Assembly. Find your legislator and weigh in with your thoughts on the proposed bans. It is our feeling at Bond's Fine Cigar Shoppe that it should be up to the small business owner to decide to allow smoking in their establishment or not and it really isn't a concern for the Government when there are many other things of greater importance they could be working on. Please visit the website and let them know how you feel. If these Bills should become law what will they take away next year?

:angryteet :argh: :nono: :tongueout Recently, the following bills have been filed in an attempt to restrict smoking of premium cigars and other tobacco products within the Commonwealth:

1. House Bill No. 2245 from Delegate Algie T. Howell, Jr. - Democrat of Norfolk
2. House Bill No. 2689 from Delegate Glenn G. Oder - Republican of Newport News
3. House Bill No. 2422 from Delegate Morgan H. Griffith - Republican of Salem
4. House Bill No. 2067 from Delegate John A. Cosgrove - Republican of Chesapeake
5. House Bill No. 1952 from Delegate Harvey B. Morgan - Republican of Gloucester
6. House Bill No. 2005 from Delegate Vincent F. Callahan, Jr. - Republican of McLean
7. Senate Bill No. 1161 from Senator Brandon J. Bell. II - Republican of Roanoke

Simplistically speaking, House Bills 2245, 2689, 1952, and 2005 need to be defeated, along with Senate Bill 1161. Each of the above bills from the House of Delegates has been assigned to the House General Laws Committee, and their Sub-Committee #3, which defeated Senator Bell’s legislation last year. Senator Bell’s 2007 legislation has been assigned to the Senate Education & Health Committee, just as last year.
