Brand: Vegueros

Vitola: Mananitas (4 * 46 rg)

Box Code: Unknown, was a single bought from local B+M

Date Smoked: 7/2/17

Appearance and Construction:

This little petit pyramid looks pretty good, with a nice oily colorado claro wrapper. Has one small blemish, no major veins and one small soft spot under the band. Foot looks well filled, draw is perfect.

Prelight:

Cedar and faint barnyard from both wrapper and foot, cold draw tastes of sweet tobacco.

First Third:

Initial flavours of earth, hay and white pepper spice on retrohale. There is also a slight breadiness to the flavour profile that is very nice so far. This is all balanced out by a slight underlying generic tobacco sweetness. Body and strength both medium. Already needs a touchup as the burn is very wonky. Towards the end of the third, the initial bread note becomes more like bread/baking spice, which is still backed by the earth and hay notes. Burn is still wonky, and another touchup is needed.

Second Third:

Sweetness is increasing and has moved more from generic to a honey like flavour, while the hay note is also becoming slightly more prevalent. Breadiness has now been replaced by just baking spice, while the earthy notes have taken on more of an espresso type edge. Slight ammonia present. Touchup. Moderate back of throat spice, strength and body have increased to med-full. Purge needed towards the end of second third.

Final Third:

Espresso and baking spice dominate, with the hay note lingering in the background. Strength has increased to full, body is still med-full. Touchup. Sweetness has dropped off slightly, returning more to the levels found in the first third. No real other changes.

- Not sure on this one. I really enjoyed the favour profile, finding some similarities with both H. Upmann and Cohiba. HOWEVER, the burn line was awful, with this diminutive stick needing at least 4 touchups (like one an inch :(). The tobacco also seemed undercured, with a very dark grey, almost black ash, really thick black burn line and ammonia present in the smoke. This stick was stored in my desktop at 60% rh for a month before smoking. Would try again, though probably would hold off on buying a tin unless you have the space to sit them somewhere and forget about them for a while.

EDIT: a long while..
