  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Want more, where to go next?

Need a little steering on which blends to go to next. I currently have 2 McClelland house blends that are both Virginia based (one has a bit of Black Cav in it I think by looks and the other seems pretty straight red virginia). They have both been great and I get good flavor out of them, however, it is 30-45 minutes after I am done and I go to take a whiff of my shirt that I get that "there it is moment" that I want to amp up more. It is a sweet tobacco scent and I want more of that while I am smoking.

Could it just be a product of how hot I may be getting the pipe which is pushing me out of the sweet spot (pun intended) for the most flavor, or are there other blends that will ramp that up? I think where this is heading me is toward Virginia's with higher natural sugar content but I could be wrong (and probably am as a newbie).

I have Lane 1Q on my list of things to try next, although not sure if it will give me more of what I am looking for or just bring vanilla into it (which may also be pleasing but in a different way).

My coworkers are probably looking at me thinking my washing machine is broken as I am constantly smelling my shirt.

Erinmore mixture is not a bad one to try. When you open the tin it's like being in an orchard. And has a great flavour to it but be careful about the moisture content as it's pretty high so dry it out a bit before smoking.
Or do what I do and grab a jar that seals and put most of your Baccy in it dry out your Baccy in your tin so you have enough for 5-6 smokes

Thanks for the suggestion and especially the tip about setting out enough for 5-6 smokes as I will definitely try that one.

For recommendations on baccy, I think i am looking for more of a traditional tobacco taste but amp up the natural sweetness although the orchard notes sound awesome too and will definitely give that a try.

The best bet is sampler packs of tobacco. There is enough for a few pipes and that allows you to see if you like it or not. Sometimes the 1st pipe might taste like crap but the 2nd and 3rd really good or vice versa.
It's a matter of personal preference and there is so much pipe tobacco out there that it's a never ending search for the next great smoke lol

Some of my favorites in different genres are:

Hamborger Veermaster - strait Virginia
Frog Morton Cellar - English (slight whiskey topping)
Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake - VaPer (slight rum topping)
4Noggins Bald Headed Teacher - Burley base with some Virginia and a little Latakia
Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky - Virginia and Dark Fired Kentucky Burley (and the current tobacco of the month)

All have a nice room note. The Bald Headed Teacher was a surprising one to me, being a burley base, but packs quite a bit of flavor with a nice sweet smell. They don't advertise that it does but I do wonder if there is some type of topping used.
