Weird TV happenings

First I live in an apartment building. The TV is a LCD LG with digital/analog tuning. The weird thing is not the duplicate or triplicate channels. The weird thing is the channels we pick up on the digital tuner. In the channel 83 and up to 86 (from what I've seen) each is divided into subchannels of varying numbers never the same. These channels seem to give me access to someone's TIVO or DVR of some sort. I can watch previously recorded shows and recently released movies with someone else fast forwarding the commercials. Hell they even watch soft porn sometimes probably from cinemax or something. It's kind of bizarre and have no idea why I could grab someone's tivo.

Any tech guys here have an explanation? :scratchhe

It's possible that someone has a wireless transmitter for their TiVo (or a Slingbox maybe), and that's what you're accidentally jacking. For example, my Dish Network dvd has a feature where I can use multiple tv's with the same box. Now, those tv's normally have to be hardwired still, but you can get a wireless for it. I don't think you can be getting a signal from a satellite directly--those things have mad encryption.

Do you have cable or anything? I've heard of people with shared cable in an apartment building being able to use each others channels (especially with something like the Dish example I already mentioned). It could be that the cable/satellite installer did something weird when wiring the building, and your box is now on the same network as this other person's box. They could shut it off in their menu if they wanted to/figured out you were "watching them," lol.

At any rate, I think that's pretty awesome!

We have a basic like 13 channel cable service with the internet from Comcast. I am not questioning it, it's just strange, and the porn isn't there very often. I did catch some topless chicks on the howard stern show a few nights ago.

The funniest thing is that the porn fast forwards all by itself to the naked parts it's like watching a highlights tape.
