Iv been sending and receiving packages to and from europe for years. I grew up in england and still have family there. I remember years ago getting packages for xmas and they did the same thing. I asked the guy at the post office and he said normally around October November volume starts to increase so they just get them in the country anway they can. Made sense to me. I can only imagine the volume of packages that come into the east coast hubs normally. Throw on the holidays and wow.

Down side is that its my understanding that west coast customs are more on the ball as they are constantly batteling the influx of drugs from the asian market. Plus, most of the weird crap like exotic fish and live coral comes in that side of the country so they look more.
