  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Well then!

Brothers of the Briar, I need advice. I am enjoying a bowl and by far is the best I've had yet. Baccy is Sutliff or Suttiff Westminster from Sean (JJ). Can't quite read the handwriting. My question is Should I go out and grab a handful of cobs to work my way through JJ's sampler pack or should I grab a briar or two, a another cob or two? I'm reading not to mix aros with non aros and such. Until tonight they were all tasting the same. Last night I had nightcap in the same cob and this bowl of the aforementioned baccy is way supreme, IMO. I am way intrigued here. Best course of action or opinions please!

It's all a personal preference. Anything with latakia or perique will ghost a little more in your pipe. Some people don't care about that though and I personally like smoking some English out of my aromatic pipe. It's all about how you like it.

The nice things about cobs and meers is they don't need the rest that briars do. That said I think you should have at least one briar and if you have a bunch of cheap cobs you could justify a nicer briar. Like a hackert! Have I mentioned I love my hackert :)

Nothing wrong with adding a few cobs to the rotation. The big plus for briars is that you have a larger range of bowl sizes available. Some baccy's seem to have better flavor in a wide bowl, while others taste better smoked in a smaller bowl. But its all personal preference in the end.

If your looking for a deal on cob's and don't care about looks or size, you can order from Missouri Meerschaum directly. They sell a bag of 10 seconds for $29.95.
