What can you tell me about this pipe?

A buddy gave it to me last night. He said he has more than enough pipes in his collection. This is my first "real" pipe. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about these.

Hey man. What is the distinction that this pipe is a second ? Just very curious.

The name. Tilshead is apparently Upshall's line of seconds.

Carvers are anal about perfection and rightly so. If there is a flaw in the finish or the briar once carved isn't just perfect they sell the pipe as a second. Some carver don't even sell seconds. They go into the wood burner or become their personal pipe. I mistakenly asked on a pipe maker forum why they don't sell them and quickly regretted asking the question.
