I have been building my library for many years. There are a few rare and collectible books, but it really is just my library. I don't really think of it as a collection.

That's awesome. I've kept every book I've ever read and purchased including school textbooks. I recently got a kindle though so that will most likely stymie my collecting.

No. I am not a soldier. I basically worked their version of disaster relief aid. Iraq and Afghanistan is just where I got into collecting old weapons. Their are some really cool markets that I got to visit. Although I was able to learn to use a lot of gear ( some for work and some not) which is why I now collect that stuff. My gandfather and father worked and work for DynCorp. Dyns not just a pmc they do a lot of good besides soldiering. My grandfather was a helicopter mechanic from very early on with Dyn and he got my Dad a job who in turn got me a job learning to be a helicopter mechanic(all state side) with Dyn, which I didnt end up sticking with. I tried doing that for a little bit and wasn't very good at it. I made friends with a guy who worked in contingency and international development who helped me out. Which is when i got to travel a bit. I consulted, as part of a huge team (I was by no means anything more than a workerbee) for various companies and organizations that hired Dyn. It was stuff like helping rebuild and handing out food and blankets or mapping out relief routes and things of that nature. I even got to help out after Katrina in Louisiana.

Edit: not sure if your thinking I was their durring conflict time. I just want to clarify that I was not. I was their way after.

I know Dyn well... I've spent many afternoons in their hq offices in Ft Worth and elsewhere... Aviation support is a core competency for them.. And is worth a whole lot more money to them than their security and law enforcement portfolios combined...

No worries.. Thought it possible that we crossed paths somewhere in the past... I spent a significant amount of time at Dyns camps in Baghdad and Kabul both between 2007-2010...

Cigars, shoes, watches, most likely several more degrees, and debt.....
Seems to be the story with that law degree! How close are you on that one? What's next? My wife was pre-med, went law, practiced a couple years, now wants to go back to med...
She says it's pretty common.
Good luck Bro!
Just finishing up my first semester in December. Probably an MBA or an LLM next but those would be night school because I want to work haha I'm tired of living off the Gov. Lol

Nobody's said comic books yet?! Well, comic books! I also have a small bourbon collection, with bottles signed by the various Master Distillers. Oh, yeah, and seashells... I seem to have a lot of shells.

We very well may have, we got put up in all kinds of places, mostly civilian, but there were a few times where we had to hitch rides or be escorted.

I recently found my old baseball card collection from the late 80's/early 90's... it also has some hockey cards in there from the same era. Anyone want them? You can toss me whatever you think they are worth in cigars.

Yeah, I think I have a rookie Mike Scioscia, and I had a rookie Hershizer, but I didn't see it in there... I also have a slew of others: Barry Bonds (as a Pirate), Ozzie Smith... yadda-yadda...

I had an outstanding comic book collection destroyed by one of our massive superstorms... Flooded the room and all of them gone. Twas a very sad day.

Well, I didn't mean to collect them, it was just what I listened to back then, but I have about 300 classic rock vinyl LPs from the seventies and eighties. Most are still in almost perfect condition. My receiver died long ago and I just never replaced it. So the turntable sits idle, just another victim of the digital age.

I collect Hot Wheels. About 99% of them are still in their package stored away. Every now and then we go to Walmart and I will buy one or 2.

It is crazy cause when I was a kid hot wheels were $0.25 each and now they are $1.30 what happened. But ya I love my cars just something about them.
