I was enjoying an inexpensive cigar tonight, and was better than half way though, when I laid it in the ash tray for a minute. When I came back the entire head of the cigar had split open on three sides. My first thought was that my humidity was way off. It does fluctuate from the low 60's to the low 70's using 65% beads and an Oasis in a cooler. The temp (chilled with ice packs replaced twice a day) is generally around the mid 70's.

I have an aristocat temp/humi controlled humidor on order, but until it arrives in about a month I've got to make do.

Any ideas on what would cause the split after smoking it for probably 30+ minutes?

Thanks,

Could be a drastic change in humidity between the humi and the environment you were smoking it in. Could also be a fragile wrapper as well. Just my two cents, FWIW.
