  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

What is new with you?

I just got invited to go play 36 holes at an exclusive private country club on Saturday. I guess my buddies dad won a silent auction for 8 rounds of golf, but it has to be played in one day, so we are playing it twice. I've never really played a long 18 hole course before. So this should be interesting. and tiring.

Oh yeah we all get a New Polo Shirt from the CC, breakfast, and lunch included as well as 2 sleeves of balls. So I figure if I bring a couple sleevs myself, I should be OK. lol

Ok, I've never played golf; but "tiring"is not a word I could associate with it. Unless ye run after the cart...

actually, you'd be surprised how tiring it is. i've played a short 9 hole course back to back before, and it was exhausted afterwards. its physically tiring because you ARE walking a lot, and swinging the clubs does get tiring after awhile. and its mentally tiring trying to concentrate on making on good shots. that goes for me anyway, im a horrible golfer, but i love it nonetheless.

My parents and brother are coming into town tomorrow night, staying with us for a week. That should be fun in all respects other than that I won't be smoking that week (Mom hate's it and it's not worth the trouble and strife to even bother), though I might try to sneak out with my brother one night after everyone else is asleep--just like when we used to live at home!

Getting ready to put a new roof on the house this summer. I have done a lot of building and one roof myself, but this job is quite a bit more complicated so I am hiring a contractor. My cigar budget may be non-existent for awhile. . .:frownno: Anyone ever use solar tube skylights? I am thinking of adding a couple during the replacement.

I can see that as we will be riding in the cart, but it's cart path only, so we have to walk from the cart to our ball and back on every shot. Also the course is 7000 yards long, not including the distance between one hole and the next. Ohyeah and we'll be in the sun for roughly 8 hours.

This is a common belief among people who DON"T play golf. My wife, who has run 7 marathons and countless half-marathons, gets tired after 18 holes. Walking 4-6 miles per 18 holes (depending on how straight you hit it and the distances from green to tee), while carrying or pushing clubs, and swinging said clubs anywhere from 68 to 130 times per 18 holes (trying to account for most abilities here) isn't as easy as it looks/sounds. Now, I'm not trying to say I get a heavy cardio workout every time I step on the course, but if I play 18 or 36 holes in a day, I've burned a good amount of calories doing so.

Damn...I can't wait to get back out there...

I don't play golf much but I always thought that riding in a cart took most of the fun and exercise out of it. That explains why I started hiking instead.

Not meaning to put down those that are no aren't able to walk a course, but still get enjoyment out of golf.

I agree. I haven't walked a round in a couple of years. In the past, I played better when I was walking. IMO, the walking releases my tension and allows me to focus better.

there are a lot of courses around here that won't let you walk. it slows down the course. Now that doesn't mean you can't play slow if you are in a cart, but in general cart play is a bit faster.

And we're playing Marbella Country Club

Let's see. About 8 months ago I got a new position at work. The same job level, but a waaaay better job. Advancement opportunities, certifications, and such. Currently working toward a CCNA, but the economy has slowed my training. I figure I'll just do like most people and read the books, then take the tests on my own. This job also gives me more time to do things outside of work. I just finished replacing 1/3 of my deck (lumber is expensive. I have to do it like a cigar review. In thirds). I also get to spend more time with my family. Oh yeah. I very rarely get a call outside of working hours that requires me to put my cigar aside. All in all, it's going pretty good. The only cigars I've bought recently have been from brothers on the boards I frequent.
