  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

What ruins a good cigar?

Nicotine O.D.

Ugh, that's the worst.
That's only happened to me once...couldn't even smell a cigar for days without feeling nauseous.

If I even feel like I'm smoking too much, I'm going to force myself to smoke something really strong on an empty stomach, lol.

Most consistent pain in the a$$ thing for me is a plugged cigar. I seem to get at least one a month. Hate that!
Ditto--I never have really smoked a CAO Black 'VR'...tried 3 times, 1 plugged and 2 were nearly so (I think those suckers need to be dry-boxed for about a year).

and on the other end of the spectrum, when there is loose spot in the wrapper that allows too much are in. you keep turning and turning to try to find and cover the spot so you're not just sucking air.
luckily that doesn't happen as frequently as it used to. think maybe i'm smoking a little better quality of cigar now!
lol, that's happened to me a couple times recently too. I too attributed it to cheap sticks.

A phone call from work with a problem. Come to think of it, that pretty much ruins the rest of the day.

I am talking about unsolicited conversation. I deal with people all day long. When I do get to smoke it is a personal alone time thing for me. If I am smoking with friends or others I have no problem talking and enjoying a smoke!
Oh, gotcha, I agree with you there.

When the person next to you in your local B&M is smoking a nasty cigarette.
That's the one upside of the Madison smoking ban: when the downtown cigar bar finally got an exemption, one of the restrictions was no cigarettes, cigars and pipes only.

It's not just me, then. I had terrible luck with those cigars.

Onions, Onions, Onions......Never smoke a cigar after having any Onions(on the raw side and also to much garlic). Ruins the flavor. Yuck!

Oh yeah and Altoids. Made that mistake once..........

I would have to say a menhaden oil spill...for those who dont know what that is, its the saltwater fishing equivalent of doe urine... nothing kills a nice cigar during calm night on the dock than that.

Other than the cold, my main problem is allergies/sinus issues. Sometimes I just can't taste the cigar very well, and I won't really know until I lite one up. I haven't figured out a way to counteract this yet.

An inconsistent burn.

When i have to pay close attention to where the next run or canoe is going to develop, it takes a huge amount of pleasure out of the smoke. I'm worrying about which way to hole it, which way the wind is blowing, rotating it while i'm drawing, relighting it...worrying about everything but the flavor.

A bad burning cigar drives me nuts.
That's another one that annoys me also! I guess I had the trifecta the other day, cold+windy+bic lighter=bad burn, much less I was golfing too. Needless to say that cigar didn't make it's final third...
