  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Breathing. I usually smoke 1 a day, sometimes 2, sometimes none.

Walking into a cigar lounge is a BIG trigger for me.

Having a cold is a big turn-off. I haven't had a cigar since last Saturday. Anybody here smoke with a cold?

When my mind becomes idle. Never notice wanting one when I'm busy, just when I'm sitting around and my mind wanders. And certain friends, we've been smoking every time we get a chance for so long, I can't think about a visit without starting to wounder what we will smoke.

I definitely dig the narcotic effect that cigar smoking has. I don't want to say that I'm addicted, cause I've been addicted to things before & this hobby/habit pales in comparison. That said, I do see OCD tendencies come out when I want something.

I'll smoke 2 a day & occasionally up to 4 or 5 on a weekend or holiday. I also definitely notice a change in my temperment when I haven't had one for a while (nothing drastic, just a bit gritty.) And again, nothing compared to cigarettes, etc.

For me time and place are a huge trigger. If I am somewere that is comfortable and I have enough time to slow down and enjoy a smoke it makes a huge difference. Other triggers include: getting a new shipment, reading a review about a stick that I have, opportunity to smoke with friends, and making room for new smokes- ok the last one isn't a trigger it's an excuse.

Everything instigates me. The f'in weather is a Buzz Kill though. The ladies I have locked up with me in this igloo I call my home are a major kicker also. Created this wonderful Man Cave with exhuast and everything and they still harrass me. I think they could smell a flies fart from 250 yards up wind. Oh well, I will be a vapor to them come the warm weather.

For me, anything that inhibits optimum ability to smell an aroma - be it a cold, strong winds swirling when outside, being in an enclosed room with cigarette smokers or even the membrane constriction that comes from smoking cigars too frequently - means that if I light up anyway, I've pretty much wasted the money paid for that particular stogie.

Well for me the end of the week is cigar time. A time to relax and reflect upon the week's ocurrances in good company, a little bromance if you will.

Also, I absolutely love the smell of quality tobacco in my humidor, especially the sweet aroma of cameroons. OM NOM NOM NOM!

...I find that I am really stimulated when on a site like this, I read about the cigar experiences of others. Just seeing someone smoke has little effect on increasing my desire to light up; and the smell of a roomful of tobacco smoke is actually a turn off to me. (I pretty much have to smoke where there is fresh flowing ventilation.) Time of day means little, although I do not enjoy smoking when it is very hot.

I am really curious about your thoughts on this subject. Thanks for participating.
I'm exactly with you. For me 75% is the hype and the experimentation. The other 25% is relaxation/vacation. The first time I smoked ANYTHING was on a vacation to Cancun 2 years ago. 1 real cohiba, 3 fakes (glass top box). Didn't smoke again until I went back in September. Smoked everyday (more of those fakes) 2 real ones bought at the hotel. I got sick on the 4th day! I also eat more and drink more when I am on vacation. Now that I am not on vacation my rate is like 2-3 per MONTH. When I go back this year it will be everyday and the real thing!! - The internet is a dangerous thing!

You know, it started for me as "naughty"ness. I was raised in a straightedge household, no tobacco, no alcohol. Never skipped a class in High School. President of associations, etc, etc. When I was first turned on to cigars, I would go out with my best friend as some sort of personal rebellion. It's funny to me now.

Now, I smoke to escape- not in a running away fashion, but to allow myself the time and pleasure to enjoy my own existence, my company, the world- u kno? When things get more and more stressful with work and in life, I crave that peace of mind more.
