  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

What would you pay for this stick?

I paid $35 each shipped for 4 (all different vitola including the one posted in the OP). I was looking for 1 but couldn't find any for sale so I ended up with a 4 pack I really didn't need or want.

I just did a box split on these - the God’s Whisper is one of the “harder to come by” vitolas for the 20th Anniversary series.

I picked up a box for about $29-30 a stick after shipping to me. I have yet to smoke one, I figure a little rest will make it shine, but as many others have said, it’s all a matter of preference. If you really like the Opus lines, then sure, this might be right up your alley.

It’s no different than paying $25 for a Padron 80 Years or 50th Anniversary, or a RE / LE CC. For a lot of people, burning $30 in a cigar is ridiculous, for others, they have their preferences and they’ll pay it. These MSRP for around $25 and because they’re HTF, most stores sell them for $30-40.

I walked into a B&M today selling Don Carlos EOTS for $60/each. Mind you, I’m in California, but I couldn’t believe it. The funnier part is, half the box was gone!

To each their own, but there’s too many options out there to waste money on baller sticks (unless that’s your thing).

I just bought 4 for 16.95 a stick, If you bought a Toast Across America two-packs for 50 bucks you could buy one 20th Anniversary and one other limited edtion cigar. Didn't realize what a good deal it was at the time, to bad three of the sets are already spoken for.
Where was this at or what site sir?

Well Kalifornia's 68% of whole sale price TAX is driving prices up up and away if you buy there. The cold hard facts is a $10.00 wholesale price, that retails for $20.00 now cost $26.80 before local, county, and state sales tax on the $26.80. So ad another 12-15% to the bill.

Yep. I’ve basically gone to online only unless I want to use the lounge. Then I bring what I want to smoke and buy something on the cheaper side for another time.

Been smoking Opus cigars since the beginning and have smoked nearly every single special to this day and it always comes back to the original ones.....the Rosado Wrappers and my favorite ones are the Perfecxion or Chateau Reserves, Double Robustos that can be had for MSRP. The quality is as good as the "over the top Opus" cigars that are about Marketing and Advertising to push the brand into the stratosphere. It's hard to justify paying anything over $15 for any cigar and when I read the articles about the Saka Cigar for $100...Unicorn....I nearly had a coronary. Sometimes this hobby gets a little out of hand and when our own people step out with this kind of flimflammery I just shake my head.

We all have our sources for cigars whatever cigar that might be and checking with them is paramount to keeping them in our own humis instead of paying some ridiculous amount just for the privilege of showing them off at our local B&M's which is all about optics sometimes.

Markup on accessories can be less than Cigars.
Humidors are not marked up as much, some lighters and cutters perhaps have a lower margin, but bring in $$$.
also these would not have to bear the tobacco taxes .

I did not know you could buy cigars on eGay!
I dont want to know.... eGay.....

ebay has a tobacco policy you have to state in the listing that it isnt for tobacco it is for cigar bands or collectable pipe tobacco tins and that it isnt for human consumption it is for collecting purposes. So you take some risk because if they just send you bands you are shit outta luck, but everyone knows if they are removed bands unless they slide them off you could leave negitive feedback for a damaged item. Yes you can buy cigars, vintage cigars, pipe tobacco. Vintage tins with and with out tobacco all kinds of smoking accessories crazy exspinsive lighters

You can see in this exsample that "factory sealed boxes" are mixed in with "empty boxes" so you got to be careful
That is crazy!!! Did not know that you could at all..... but you're right, it seems risky considering if you list on there you have to get around the rules with your descriptions. Also, knowing how many unscrupulous sellers are on there, I would be wary that the sticks would not have been kept at ideal conditions or are stale/spoiled...... I still plan to check this out more often though.

I dont want to know.... eGay.....
This is an old term I still use when referring to ebay...... Back when I had my coin website we would call it "eGay" due to various reasons, one being the vast number of dishonest coin dealers on the site overstating grades/conditions...... And the fact eBay would often turn a blind eye when people would be scammed during rare coin transactions. But alas. This is a cigar site not a coin site.

I really can't justify those prices to be honest. Even for special occasions I don't get how/where these people get their balls to ask for those prices. I heard from a wholesaler that pretty much every stick costs about .50 to $2.00, obviously with some exceptions, but I'm sure the Opus is not too far off. I'd really love to know exactly what it costs them to make the different lines. I think the most I've ever spent was 30/stick on some Padrons. But some of these Opus for 40-50 is a little steep.

.50 cents to a few bucks is probably the cost to roll them.

As far as real cost at wholesale... usually 50% off MSRP is wholesale.

Yea, sorry I believe that is what he meant. That before it gets to him and he gets his markups, pretty much everything is .50 cents to 2 bucks. He said "every stick costs that much to make," so that doesn't really incorporate shipping, logistics, etc.

I found a store in upstate NY that had 6 opusx 20 yr blue label left. I was so excited and stupid enough to pay $50 each for a few. I don’t plan on smoking them for a long time, but still, too much to pay.
