  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

What's been your biggest scare?

When I was 21 I wrecked my car doing a little over 100 mph. Had 2 buddies with me and we all walked away with minor scrapes and pains, we're lucky we didn't flip!

Wow Chuck - I think the one thing I would be most scared of is something happening to my son!! I don't even want to think about that!

The first thing that comes to mind is when my fathers truck got it's bed ripped off by a repeat drunk driver. He was fine, but the vehicle impact was in inches of him. Real close-call.

I've done some stupid & scary shit, but these days, I'm more afraid for family & friend's well-being than my own.

June 30th 2006 It was a Friday afternoon around 230 pm. I was weight lifting at work at the firehouse. I was trying to get into shape for my upcoming wedding in OCt. I was running religiously for the chi town 26 mile marathon. While military pressing 50 lb dumb bells( Im not a big framed guy). I forgot to breath and looked to the side to see the time on the clock. I had 2 or 3 reps on the last set. I immediately felt the worse headache anyone could feel. R side like a arrow from front to back. I'm a paramedic so I knew instantly that something had gone terably wrong. I told the other guys in another room that I was having a anuerysm. They laughed but checked me out Nuero wise. (puppils, stroke scale etc). I quit lifting and kept thinking I needed to go to the E.R.
Well to make matters worse I tool a couple IB( a blood thinner) to kill the pain.
The next few days I couldn't do much. Hardly walk up stairs, a mile into my daily run I collapsed and had to walk home. 1 week later I went to the E.R. and they had me in a MRI almost immeditely after questioning me. Well I spent almost 1:45 mins in that Fcking thing with about 6 docs in the other Room. I new instantly I wasn't going home that day.
I got out the nurse told me the Nuero surgeon(not nurologist had to speak to me. I told the Doc no bull shitting, I know somethings wrong so lets hear it. Well Justin My name is Doc so so and I believe you may have a brain bleed by your brain stem 2 hours later Im being airlifted to UIC for more tests.
A spinal tap and more High def MRI scans. And I am diagnosed with a V.A.D.
Vertebral Artery Discection. 3 months off work completely at the age of 26. No more rides at the Six flags, no ruff house, no Football and no GOLF(yeah right). No sugery the vessel healed itself. But if it would of transected all the way thru I would of died in a matter of mins. It took me almost a year before I was 90% Now my neck feels better I 'm running and light lifting to stay in shape. Everyday after this neither my wife nor I try to not kiss and say I love you. (highschool sweeties)
All is good except for the lymphnodes in my neck for the last 12 months. They had to cut 1 out 2 months ago to check for cancer. No cancer but they still dont no why my liver enzymes have been thru the roof and my lyphnodes havn't gone down.
Yeah health is not something you take for granted!:santa2:

Yep. When I was 22 I laid a Honda 750 down on its side at 50 MPH and rode it for what seemed like miles with sparks flying and leather tearing off my boot which dragged. Walked away to find clean pants. But nothing compares to fear for your kids.

dude something like this happened to me. I was on the squat press at school with a rediculus amout of weight(540lbs) and i forgot to breathe on the last rep.I racked the weight and as soon as the weight was off of me i had the same headache you described and i thought i was having or gunna have an anuerysm, but i just drank water and stopped lifting for the day. about 3 days later i was at the gym doing pull ups and I did one and it came back worse, so i left and went to the chiropractor. He was afraid to crack me around so he took an x-ray and saw something that looked like a crack in my C-2 vertabra and called 911.I had to lay on one of those damn plastic boards and not move for 2 hours with a neck brace. They took another x-ray and said i was fine and to give it 2 weeks. now im fine...your story freaked me out and got me thinking, what if they over looked something and i could have died.. but hey im fine now just alittle scary

i had a narly motorcycle accident,,, spent my 21st bday in the hospital. in there for a month, in a wheelchair for another month. can't say it was scary since i don't remember anything about it!

as for scary, 12 years old, swimming at Waikiki beach. somehow got sand caught up in my snorkel and couldn't clear it. inhaled a bunch of sand and seawater. i was sure i was going to die. someone pulled me up and put me on their raft. saved my life for sure!!

Amg not to scare you but the vertebral Artery runs directly thru the C2 and the goes thru the Circle of Willis to the brain stem. A Xray let alone some older MRIs cant detect smaller tears in arteries. So im guessing you could have done exactly what I did. Also be careful of the Chiro. Their the #1 cause of V.A.Ds

There are some scary experiences here! I somehow know that, when the time comes, I'll be much more scared for me kids; especially if something like Chuck's experience happens to me!

My biggest scare of my life is when i thought i was pregnant... :skew:

How 'bout yours?
I've been in a ton of car crashes but I guess the scariest moment in my life has to be a toss up between a pregnancy scare, me thinking I was having a heart attack or the time I thought I killed my brother... come to think of it has to be the time I thought I killed my brother.

That's some scary shit right there Alfonso.. I mean you may not always get along on the best of terms with your brother and have your fair share of fights but ain't nothing scarier than looking over your shoulder thinking your brother is dead thanks to you.

The time I clicked a link and it was a pretty picture or video and then some devil beast comes out of no where on the screen, yelling and screaming. I definitely pissed the pants.
