Hey folks ... lets talk flashlights/torches.

What is the best performning, most reliable, longest lasting light out there? I'm looking for not only standard sized lights but also small, easily portable and easily packable options. So what do you fellas use?

I know there are a hundreds of lights out there and you can spend $100 bucks or more on a light depends on what your looking for. Here are some affordable options that use AA batteries. For longer run times your going to have to get lights that run on CR123A or propritary batteries.

Pen light great for when you need a light in tight spaces. It fits anywhere you can put a pen. Small enough that in a pinch you can hold it with your mouth to free up both your hands draw back is that it's only good for up close work and uses hard to find AAAA batteries.

Mini Mag Light. everyone knows these lights, can find them anywhere range from $10 - $15. easy to find parts and runs on AA batteries. Bad thing performance drops in cold temps and it's water resistent not water proof.

Fenix E21 best bang for your buck. Well built, Waterproof, performs great in cold weather. 2 brightness settings to help with batterylife using standard AA batteries. Drawbacks is that if you set it down on a sloped surface it will roll away from ya and takes some practice turning it on when wearing gloves.

Costco is currently selling a mobile solar recharge kit. Anyone know if they're any good.

Click on the link to see -->Goal Zero

They're selling it for $139 I believe.

That Fenix E21 looks like a great buy. All the reviews look solid and I can keep a few extra batteries in the GHB easily.

Good find!

Thx for the Fenix E21 recommendation! It's great that it's AA powered too.

This product looks like it could be really useful ... anyone ever use Rite In The Rain before?

I've used them for work. They're not too bad, if you use the right type of pen like a classic bic. Anything else will still smudge. Also depends on how wet they are. If they're damp, they're good. Soaking wet, not so much but than again what would be. Well besides the obvious. :halfgrinw

This guy, Phil, was on Season 3 of Top Shot. He's got some really good videos on survival gear and weapon systems. Here's some good advice for a Go/Bug-out bag:

Thanks for the vid! I'll check out more of his stuff.

The Moras showed up this past weekend but the Atom packs aren't scheduled to show up until Friday (crap slow shipping, argh).

This pack has really caught my eye (for me) but there don't seem to be many reviews out there. I've always had really great experiences with Thule roof racks and roof luggage bags ...

Long shot here ... anyone have one of these or even know someone who does?

I have to agree w/ the .22 cal ammo/weapon choice. Definitely the most plentiful.

The other option would be 9mm and .223 combo as they're more available in quantity than .40 cal.
