  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

When you bought your first house, what was something you WANTED (not NEEDED)?

Well, I wanted a screened porch, beer fridge, porch recliner and a urinal built into my porch wall. I never got the urinal but I did cut a hole for my pecker in the screen. True Story....

patio furniture if they have one...
was my number 1 pick as well

I bought my first house last May & the first thing I wanted to do was to change all the locks to good, high quality ones with keypads. Might be lame too, but they'll prolly thank you later...
great idea, this would definitely be appreciated

Paintings for the wall (could be subjective), yard art/sculptures, giftcards to Lowe's or HomeDepot, a nice grill, nice patio furniture or a potted plant that'll last for years (if she has can take care of it).
wall decor is a good idea as well, as it always seems like it takes forever to cover new walls...can be difficult though, have to know their taste. that said, even a decent piece can go well in a powder room for guests (ie a print or giclee from somewhere they have visited works well)

a stinky standing ashtray would be good too.

...similar to the true green service... housekeeping for a couple of months would be handy, especially once they've got their stuff out of boxes.

One of my brother in laws got my wife and I a large cast iron letter that is the first initial of my (our) last name. We loved it and still love it today. One of the few items that we have from our wedding gifts 20 years ago. We mounted it on our chimney. Moved houses 5 years later and it made the move as well and is mounted on our home today. My wife probably likes it even more than me. It's simple, understated and totally unique.

Another idea that I use for weddings it 3 bottles of wine.

1 with a note attached that it is to be drank the day they close
1 with a note attached that it is to be drank in 3 years, or 5, whatever
1 with a note attached that it is to be drank in 10 years, 20, 25, whatever.

It's a unique gift and people seem to like it. Like I said, I use itr for weddings quite often, but it could work for a house too.

I like that idea, a lot. I think I'll use it for my mom's upcoming wedding, actually. It's pretty hard to come up with a wedding gift idea for 2 people that already have an excess of 'stuff', and want to downsize as is.

I agree with the lawn service and treatment service. Nothing says proud homeowner than well manicured lush green grass.

Maybe even a pest/termite service
