  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Who gives a crap about the color of the frickin' ash ?

When reading reviews about cigars be it CA, Smoke, the internet etc etc the subject of "a beautiful white ash ... " always comes up.

Who gives a crap what color the ash is ? Some of the best stogies I have smoked have had ashes the color of 3 day dandruff flaked off of Bea Arthur's crotch. The color has absolutely nothing to do with the flavor or performance.

Why do reviewers always find it necessary to note the ash color when it is irrelevant to the integrity of the cigar ? :argh:

maybe a "beautiful white ash" is the opposite of a flakey grey ash.

I think it's another way to let you know the cigar is well constructed.

Or maybe it's another form of MUSAK; i.e.pretty words used to give you a positive visual image

Wouldn't you like to know?
I guess all things equall on the flavour side the one with theperfect firm white ash is prefered to dark flaky one. I agree that it isn't very important to me but if it is there with everything else all the better.

As it's been stated, a firm, not flaky ash shows a good construction; and a white one is indeed very "eye-pleasing". Why do they mention a smooth, oily wrapper? It's a way to review, and I meself enjoy it.

I don't see anything wrong with describing a physical characteristic. :dunno: Sometimes they are, sometimes they aren't indicative of the quality. But I wouldn't say it's irrelevant.

From my understanding a white ash indicates more complete combustion....which usually indicates superior construction, draw, and adequate aging. I haven't personally seen much of a correlation but I know guys with alot more experience than myself who believe this to be true. I will have to defer to their judgement.

I don't care what color my ash is. But I do like to see how long I can make it hold on the end of my cigar before it breaks off.
