  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Who's the best running back?

Who is the greatest NFL running back ever?

with all the Ladainian Tomlinson hype (which I'm totally a part of!!), who do you think is the all time best? why?? in a recent interview, Ladainian was asked that question. He said there is no way that he could be compared to the greats.... as he is only in his 6th season! a true sportsman!!

I think it has to be Jim Brown. The man had it all speed and power. Plus he played in a tougher era and as he'll tell you never ran out of bounds. Just think he much more he could have done if he didn't quite early due to making a movie and the Browns told him to be at training camp or they'd dock his pay. He said screw it and retired to continue making his movie.

There are, in my opinion, a few missing from the Poll, but I'll go with Jim Brown.

Here are some others:

O.J. Simpson (held the single season rushing record till Dickerson broke it, though did it in a 14-game season)
Bo Jackson (shortenned career, but just an amazing running back)
Eric Dickerson (single-season rushing record)
Gale Sayers (before my time, but had 22 TD's as a rookie [14-game season], including 6 in one game, still the record)
Marcus Allen
John Riggins
Tony Dorsett
Earl Campbell

Well, all the guys I named are currently HOF'ers (minus Bo Jackson), so I think they compare.

When it is all said and done though, LT may be the greatest.

For right now though, I'd put O.J. and Dickerson in my top 5 with Emmitt, Sweetness and Jim Brown.

A physical anomaly for the time. He was larger than the line backers. Also the greatest lacross player.

I voted for Sweetness. Could run, could block, could pick up the blitz and stand up a line backer.

Honorable mention to Larry Czonka.

Got my attention ... I would have thought a workhorse like Emmit or Curtis Martin maybe.

This one was a trip down memory lane.

As someone who saw Jim Brown play, I truly believe he has had no equal. He was the most punishing running back I ever saw. I would give honorable mention to Jim Taylor, as a punishing runner. Brown would have had the most amazing statistical career if he has stayed in pro ball. Think of it, everything he did was in NINE seasons. . .

I saw Sayers play and Csonka; both were exceptional. Sayers career was cut short by knee injuries. Payton was amazing and much like Brown; he was never afraid to hit. Simpson rates right up there. I saw him play at USC. I think that Jackson and Campbell might be a tier below, but only because of shortened careers.

It's a tough choice between Walter Payton and Barry Sanders.I've seen walter & Barry play a few times and Barry had move like no other, tv doesn't do him justice. so I voted for Barry
